Various Artists - New Noise Year's Party (3 x C-60 cassette)

A01 - H64
A02 - Export
B01 - Condom
B02 - Iron Brotherhood
C01 - Victor/im
C02 - mistery guest

This 3 cassette set is a report on a small festival organised by Club Moral on 31 December 1986. Four of the bands had earlier played together in Birmingham on an event organised by Condom (Mermaid, 26 September 1986).
Apart from the recordings not very much information on the event was to be found in our archives.

"With bleeding ears from old to new" certainly sounds like an excellent idea and I would definitely be willing and able to play. As Ingo is looking to organise something in Germany between December 20th and January 7th the two could be combined very well.
(letter from Condom, 15 November 1986)

Mike wrote me that you're going to invite me to a live event on New Year at Club Moral. Please confirm. Please also confirm if you are interested in a H64 performance at Club Moral; I enclosed a demo tape in the above mentioned package.
(letter from Victor/im, 3 December 1986)

H64 is a German project by Thomas Beck.
Iron Brotherhood is a Scottish project by Jess Hopkins.
Victor/im is a German project by Ingo Techmeier.
Condom is an English project by Mike Dando.
Export were a Dutch/English collaboration, but I don't remember who.
The Mystery Guest were Club Moral.

This episode was posted in three separate uploads, this is the third one.

This tape is a documentary of the 1986 European tour of Coup De Grace, which took place between aug. 20th and sept. 10th. Club Moral featuring as a backing group with Coup De Grace on vocals, delay-machines, tapes and pyrotechnics.
The events performed on were In Vitro by Club Moral, Altenberg by Cthulhu Records, Metabletica by V2 and The Bunker by Ret Marut. Since this tape is merely a documentation, the sound-quality may very between various recordings.
(Text from cassette cover)

This cassette was published in an edition of 113 copies. Some tracks were recorded stereo from P.A., some binaural and some plain mono on a walkman within the audience. The tracks performed live were previously released on two Coup De Grace cassettes: "Commencement / Corpse Education" (Introduction-March, Powermarch, Surrexit Dominus, Combat Zone, Finale) and "Anthems for Doomed Youth" (No Hope, End Sequence), some were previously released on various Inner-X-Musick compilations. The phonecalls were made while making arrangements for the In Vitro festival, the radio transmission was an interview at Radio Centraal in Antwerpen. The Tattoo Bar Gustaf recordings were made in a tattoo bar in the Antwerp red light district where Michael Moynihan had the Coup De Grace logo tattooed on the back of his shoulder. On one of the recordings you can hear Gustaf chasing away his aged German Shepherd dog who took a pleasure in eating bloodied tissues.

We have been in contact with Coup De Grace since 1985, exchanging tapes and printed matter. When organising the 1986 In Vitro exhibition and concerts (see Club Moral Stocklist episode 058) we thought of inviting them to play there as well. Since budgets were rather small for this kind of events back then, we decided to team up with some other organisations to set up a small tour and share the travel cost. It was also decided that Michael Moynihan would just come by himself, and Club Moral would play as a backing band during the European shows. In the end Cthulhu Records, V2 and Ret Marut/Jazzbunker booked this unique collaboration for 3 more shows after the In Vitro II Festival.

There was about a week of free time after the first show in Belgium and the last 3 performances occurred in a span of 2 days. If you look at the dates you will notice that the two Holland confrontations took place the same evening. This was due to the fact that after the dates had been arranged, V2 decided to change the days of their Metabletica festival. So we did the show in Rotterdam at 10:00pm, and then afterwards packed everything up and drove to V2 in 's Hertogenbosch, where the last performance was done (starting at about 1:30 in the morning). The components of the confrontations were as follows:
AUDIO: Backing tapes, Vocals, Synthesizers & Electronics.
VISUAL: Slides and Motion Pictures.
Surprisingly enough after a whole day of driving (from Germany to Rotterdam, then playing the show there, then driving to V2) the last confrontation was probably the most powerful of all...
(Text from Third Annual Report 12 31 86 by Coup De Grace)

From about summer 1987 until winter 1988 Coup De Grace set up a European Office in an abandoned part of the Club Moral factory. Michael Moynihan was living there, first in companionship with Zenobia and later teaming up with Hamish Halley aka SerVex 23. Part of an attic space was rebuilt into lodgings, office and a workshop. The rent was remarkably cheap and the landlord didn't really bother about anything going on, so any kind of activity was possible.
In October 1987 Coup De Grace was invited by AMVK to perform at an evening of Bar Europa, organised by NL-Centrum in Amsterdam.
Hamish Halley set up a leather artefact and special clothing workshop and successfully performed his Prince Albert piercing at the Club Moral Quarters using a 10ga needle and a lot of will power.
Thomas Thorn briefly stayed there and a one and only concert of Slave State was organised in a newly discovered basement underneath Club Moral.
Basically both Michael Moynihan and Hamish Halley were living in Belgium illegally, which made them decide in 1989 to return to the US and New Zealand respectively.

Michael Moynihan continues to publish music and books: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Moynihan_(journalist)
Zenobia lives in Boston and works in the film industry.
Hamish Halley is now in charge of Flesh Wound: www.fleshwound.co.nz
Thomas Thorn is an active priest of the Church of Satan: www.churchofsatan.com

Club Moral - Live Outtakes (C-90 cassette)

A-03 - 4 Safe Walls
A-04 - Le Locataire
A-05 - Hunting Man
A-06 - 19 Keys
A-07 - Ik Daag U Uit
B-01 - Oorlog
B-02 - Man Heeft Angst
B-03 - Each Man Kills the Thing She Loves
B-04 - Hail to Thee Black Prince
B-05 - Lies
B-06 - Here Lives My House
B-07 - L'Age D'Or

This is a collection of live recordings throughout Belgium, United Kingdom, Holland and Germany in 1985 and 1986. Some Club Moral classics are included, and some are unique or rare versions of other tracks.
Side 1; Oorlog was recorded at the Batschkapp in Frankfurt-am-Main on 24 April 1986. On the way there we blew the engine of our car and arrived some 15 minutes before we were scheduled to play. The support act was a guy called Seewo, with a chainsaw who accidently cut his hand. Nazis of the Night was recorded at the Ambulance Station in London on 1 June 1985, a festival organised by Recloose Organisation. Several other bands played as well. All the time we stayed at the Ambulance Station, we had to block the kitchen where we were supposed to sleep on the floor because a small army of bums steadily tried to break in the door looking for food and other valuables. Our driver slept in his car for three days but still the car was burgled, while we were playing. 4 Safe Walls was recorded at the Berlin Atonal Festival on 17 February 1985. Among other bands playing were Etant Donnés, Laibach, Test Department and Gerechtigkeitsliga. Le Locataire was a performance on the occasion of an AMVK-exhibition at Time Based Arts in Amsterdam on 1 May 1985. Two days later we played at Staalplaat, who made a good cassette from the show there. Hunting Man was recorded at the Jazzbunker in Rotterdam on 30 November 1985. 6de Kolonne also played in this ex-biker hellhole. 19 Keys was recorded in Leguit, Antwerpen on 19 January 1986, a night organised by Hugo Roelandt. It is a rare calling of the 19 Enochian Keys in Dutch. During the night the power failed a couple of times, during our performance the main switchboard finally burned out. Ik Daag U Uit was recorded at AntiChambres in Gent on 13 June 1986. This exhibition and night of performances was an artists' statement against the posh "Chambres d'Amis" exhibition organised by Jan Hoet. In our performance DDV was locked in a metal cage which he pulled over the floor himself by ropes attached to the wall. The sound is produced by contact microphones glued to the metal.
Side 2; Oorlog was recorded at the Mermaid in Birmingham on 29 September 1985. A festival organised by Con-Dom, who played also as were Victor/im and Iron Brotherhood. When we showed up at the venue, already three local Teenybop bands were moving in their equipment and setting up the stage. There was a discussion with the Indian owner of the place, and finally he settled for the 'International' bands. Too bad for him only a handful of people showed up and they hadn't expected that kind of noise. Man Heeft Angst was recorded at Vooruit in Gent on 26 October 1985 on the occasion of "Nuit Erotique". It is actually a Dutch version of Therapist Fears and came with a Super8film. Each Man Kills the Thing She Loves is a live cut-up, recorded on the same event. Hail to Thee Black Prince was recorded at Staalplaat in Amsterdam on 3 May 1985. Lies was recorded at the Mermaid in Birmingham on 26 September 1986, it is a poem by convicted murderer Jack Henry Abbott. Here Lives My House was also recorded at the Mermaid. L'Age D'Or was recorded at the Stadsschouwburg in Maastricht on 1 November 1986 as an integral part of an AMVK-installation.

All recordings were made by Club Moral and are either binaural stereo or PA-mix recordings. No remixing or re-editing done. 4 Safe Walls and Nazis of the Night are originally by The Parts, lyrics by Erik Vloeberghs.

DDV's Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar is a daily listing of events in history until this day. It was first published in 1985. It involves no audio, but for your pleasure we include a video from a 1985 sculpture by DDV.
"Carruga" was a large sculpture for the "Automobiënnale>" at the Middelheim Open Air Museum in Antwerpen. It was first used in a basic version for a performance during AMVK's 1983 exhibition "Hoeren en Profeten". For the Middelheim exhibition a large metal cage was added, and a real Deutz diesel truck engine was captured inside. During the 100 days of the exhibition, the engine was left running in the otherwise quiet park. After the exhibition several attempts were made to find a definitive spot for the sculpture but all of these failed. In the end DDV ripped the metal cage to pieces in the late 1980's. When the initial Club Moral premises were abandoned in 1993, "Carruga" finally ended in the trash. All that remains is a short VHS video movie with noise soundtrack by DDV.

Every page of the first edition of the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar listed 7 days and one picture. There was a reviewed copy of the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar in 1987 and an update with new entries only in 1988. The 1989 edition of the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar was an 'all-memorials' issue, listing only events that happened 5, 10, 25, 50, 100,.... years ago. The 1990 edition of the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar listed only events about 90 killers and was subtitled "90 Killers for the 90s". The 1991 edition of the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar listed only events about artists, musicians, writers and filmmakers. The 1992 -and last- edition was an index and listed all names and the days they appeared until then in the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar. Today the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar is a huge database file with 8817 entries about 5511 people; 2405 births, 1998 facts and 4414 deaths. The database has been used in 1998 by V2 to build an 'unreliable website' for their "DEAF" festival, subtitled "The Art of the Accident".

The Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar has been available throughout 2007 as a daily blog on When I was Buying You a Drink with additional photos taken by DDV in the past eight years. Between 1999 and 2007 DDV has taken over 25.000 pictures with various digital cameras. On this blog he posted one picture every day, taken on that specific day in a random year between 1999 and 2007, as well as a listing of all the events for that day.
You can search the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar blog for a certain day by using the "Blog Archive" on the right hand side of the page, or you can search for a name, a place or whatever by using the search box on the top left of the page and clicking "Blog Search".

The Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar blog will not be updated and remains on the Blogspot system "as is".

The title from the blog was taken from a song by the Mekons,
"When I Was Buying You a Drink Where Were You ?"

This tape is a compilation of DDV's contributions to various issues of Force Mental, Club Moral's magazine that was edited from 1982 until 1988.
In all 15 issues of Force Mental were printed, some spare copies are still available from our WebShop Tal Para Qual.

Tragala Perro! is the title of an etching by Goya.
"He who lives amongst men will be irremediably vexed. If he wants to avoid it he will have to go and live in the mountains, but when he is there he will discover that to live alone is vexations."

From Force Mental 13 (1986):
Ik, Kapitein Hakenkruis = I, Captain Hook'n'Cross.

86 marks on one damned line, the future belongs to us, for now on I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS, will
command
here what You will understand or not understand, either well or not so well.
You will shut up
and swallow what I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS put You in the muzzle. And if You thought, als u zonodig al eens denkt dat U nog opmerkingen moet uitbraken of tegenstrubbelingen uit de pudding laten rollen, want pudding dat zijn slechts Uw gezichten, en beeldt U eens in een kwak pudding (chocolade) op een paar vette
witte
So if you ever
thought
You should vomit remarks or let difficulties roll out of the pudding, because pudding that are Your faces, and imagine You in a blob of pudding (chocolate) on a pair of fat white lilling buttocks of a person with 13 feet of pelvis-outline, and press Your face in that and breathe deep and enjoy Your face like I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS, enjoy it. I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS, stand before Your Appearance.
What then would You expect but despise, did You really believe I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS, can stand just one of You, just one?, maybe one, one I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS, never met and never will meet. The best I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS, get along with people I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS, never met, sometimes through mail slight tolerance might appear, but undoubtedly shrinking as Your body becomes
a
repulsing spot on my retina.
And please don't start to send me all kinds of well worked out little things, I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS, just loathe it, the terrible shit that some of You send and think I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS, will step back of it because it contains another rotting prick, the SOUND ATLAS OF VENEREOLOGY is 4 years old young ladies! In Belgium anything is better anyway, didn't You know we even have a complete female choir calling themselves CLITORIA?, I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS, wonder when they're going to play at the V A G I N A.
And You, Anglo-Saxons, did you think I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS, was going to translate every tiny bit of this little story? Don't You ever think I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS, care just one little
bit
about You all, I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS, can't even think about so much little victims there overseas, my FascistSexMurderThought would be crowded night & day. What did You expect here anyway, something You like? You like this, admit it, You're all perverts, everybody is a pervert, no need to hide it, you've got a mind, use it, pervert it, enjoy it, live! Still trying to find a little bit in English to read, You silly kids?
Allright, I, CAPTAIN HOOK'N'CROSS, was discussing the natural taste of Your playlists of all Your Highschool FM-radio's, but before we start, don't worry, we once were on an Amsterdam radio of which the studio was the size of a toilet, and where you had to leave the door open in order not to get gassed by the breath of all the people who enjoyed making a program during the hours before You, in our case we were 4 in the toilet and the radio was in the air for maybe 10 hours already that day. But anyway, why do you put KATE BUSH on the same chart as DESTRUCT COMPILATION? Did you ever think of putting them together and have BUSH DESTRUCTED on the air? No because all the good stuff has to come from Europe of course, and here we are back with the Master again, to which You have been obeying for let's see 6768 characters. Be grateful.

The second In Vitro exhibition was held from 2 July 1986 till 30 August 1986.
Just as in the first version (see Club Moral Stocklist 046) there was a 2-month exhibition of independent products, cassettes, magazines, books, records, multiples, etc. For this occasion we also had 8 huge photo's by Hugo Roelandt on show, which coincided with the Antwerp Photography Summer that was organised at various art galleries and institutions at the time.

The exhibition .S.T.TI K., actually more conceived as an installation, shows us photo's, but photo's as object-minded, actual, sober investigating, rational images of reality. Intelligence has taken the place of inspiration, knowledge has taken the place of the mysterious, scarcely to be situated, notion talent.
That's where the format comes from: by the use of a supernatural size the loyalty to nature is abjured. The image: the human figure, situated in a contemporary sphere (commercials), constructed with contemporary means (photography) and placed in a contemporary form (enormous poster). The thundering, not neglectable presentation of the nudes may be a first touchstone to which each of you can measure his own dynamics.

(Mark A. Verreckt, 1976, in "Theory/Information/Practise")

In Vitro - The Opening Night
Wednesday july 2nd, 1986; a memorable day for all involved with independent whatever it be, records, tapes, magazines, books, videos, films,... That day opened the second and final In Vitro.
A first edition had been held in summer 1984, this was a replay, being far more complete with the latest available products, and set up in a logical way, with early independent U.S. newspapers and art-magazines. For 2 months again, every infant and demented could loose control in this astonishing amount of strange information.
Some 60 people packed the space on this wednesday-night, some travelled far to witness this event, some missed the boat... The opening-night was supplemented with films from Hugo Roelandt, who also furnished the twice-life-size nudes of 4 men & women. The photos -by the way- have been made in 1976 and have never been exhibited in the meantime.
A truly memorable event that day from 8 till late, grind your teeth because you missed it.

In Vitro - The In Vivo concerts
As in the 1984 version, also this In Vitro was completed with a series of concerts, this time we decided to do them all on the same day, allowing you all to come over for just one day, whereas the previous edition had all the concerts on different days. And again 6 bands were contacted, in fact much more were, but some enquiries stranded for different reasons. We were somewhat proud to present Experiment Incest, a new Belgian band going through their brother/sister repertoire with banging metal and hurling vocals, Lakoste, or an automatic tennis-ball-release-machine that howls Burroughs-texts and discipline amongst sweat-shirted audiences, Vidna Obmana, a snobbish Fata Morgana, Hypnobeat, the sound of 100 hypnotic rhythms and a neurotic operator, Blood ov Christ, who couldn't leave Sweden for some mysterious crimes committed in his darker period (and thus did not play), and finally as guest of honour, Coup De Grace mystic child-torturer, parent-murderer and social threat.

The tape is recorded by binaural recording equipment so that you will be able to act as if you were there when using headphones and a blindfold whilst hearing it.

EB001 is the first cassette by Etat Brut, released in 1980. It was re-released by Club Moral after the disbandment of Etat Brut.

The first concerts of Etat Brut also had Super8 films, they were official products, but have never been released. Quite a lot of the shooting of these was done on the infamous viaduct of Koekelberg, a long narrow overpass that carried the Etat Brut members from their home to their job every day. Infamous because of it's traffic jams, dangerous driving and ugliness into the centre of Brussels. It was built in 1958 as a temporary solution, but remained in action until the 1980's, injecting about 30.000 cars a day into the city. The viaduct is now replaced by a tunnel.

In the late 1990's the Belgian Government donated the viaduct to Thailand, where it is now known as the "Belgian Bridge" on Rama IV Road in Bangkok.

With the release of EB001 came also Etat Brut's "Message aux Larves":
1) Qu'attendre de la paix? Un sommeil confortable pour vos tristes carcasses?
2) Face à la niaiserie, affecter l'écœurement.
3) Face à vos consciences, dresser nos tortures.
4) Face au bonheur l'énifiant, opposer le gout du sang, du métal et de la guerre.
5) Face a face!

Acier (aka Steel) is the last release by the Belgian Noise pioneer band Etat Brut (tracks marked * are by 2Tracks aka Jerry WX). It was released by Etat Brut as "Acier" and by AEON in the U.S. as "Steel".
Acier is the brutal testament of this uncompromising duo of two Brussels based science teachers heavily influenced by the writings of J.G. Ballard.

The present whereabouts of Etat Brut are unknown. 2Tracks/Jerry WX (Jean-Pierre Poirier) died in 2000.

The Eighteenth Key - AR/TE (B)
The Nineteenth Key - AMVK (B)

This set of two cassettes was released in 1986. 19 international bands contributed one "Key" each to form this compilation. Every track was recorded exclusively for this project, and remember that all of the music here was made with real instruments, analog synthesizers and - effects without computers, digital recording, editing and mastering whatsoever.

Our works concerning the 19 Enochian Keys have generated from 19 visual works and a film by AMVK, initially based on the opposition of the 19 Keys versus the films of Alfred Hitchcock, in particular the "39 Steps".
The live calling of the 19 Keys featured as a soundtrack when the film was shown on various occasions. A cassette resulted from the first showing at ProduKtion-HAIR in London in June 1983, and in the meantime the film is also made available on video. Throughout our work and the response of our audiences towards the 19 Keys, we have formed the idea of presenting an ultimate version, based on world-wide approaches. We have asked 19 international bands, whose soundwork we appreciate at most, to call out one Key each, adding to it appropriate sounds in order to obtain the most powerful force each Key possesses.
After over a year of intense creation and delicate recording, we are now then proud to offer you the ultimate 19 Enochian Keys....
(from the inner cover of Cassette One)

The windows to the fourth dimension are thrown open - and to the frightened, the Gates of Hell.
Apocryphal as they have become (and who can tell what grim reality provokes the "fantasy"), the Enochian Keys are the Satanic paeans of faith. Dispensing with such once-pragmatic whitewashing in terms such as "holy" and "angelic", and arbitrarily chosen groups of numbers, the purpose of which were only to act as substitutes for "blasphemous" words.
The magical language used in Satanic rituals is Enochian, a language thought to be older that Sanskrit with a sound grammatical and syntactical basis. The meaning of the words, combined with the quality of the words, unite to create a pattern of sound which can cause tremendous reaction in the atmosphere. The barbaric tonal qualities of this language give it a truly magical effect which cannot be described.
We would like to dedicate this work to Anton Szandor LaVey, from whose "Satanic Bible" (Avon Books 1969) the TRUE Enochian Keys are recited.
(from the inner cover of Cassette Two)

Some information on the bands: DDV is still alive. Coup De Grace played at the In Vitro II event, did a tour with Club Moral as backing band throughout Belgium, Holland and Germany and continues to play and record as Blood Axis. He collaborated with Boyd Rice and lives and works with Annabel Lee. ProduKtion made several films, organised an Australian tour for Club Moral in 1987 and then disappeared out of sight (Paul, where are you?). Vittore Baroni continues to work as a mail artist. Sevenhorns dA Ho! recorded a couple of rare cassettes, played at the In Vitro I series and disappeared out of sight. The Brides of Christ released a number of cassettes on their own label and disappeared out of sight. (Jo) Bogaert became quite successful with his other band Technotronic, Hugo Roelandt made some installations and works as a teacher. FâLX çêrêbRi aka Graf Haufen had a successful distribution company of music and video and is still around in Berlin. 6de Kolonne seem to continue to work and archive their work until today. Pacific 231 continues his music works, now from Ireland. Autopsia published a lot of artwork and several cassettes and disappeared out of sight. Augusto Klamm is probably out there somewhere. Kurt Volentine made some of the greatest cut-up-collage tapes and videos in the pre-digital era and has disappeared out of sight. Gerechtigkeitsliga are still out there in London. Mauthausen Orchestra is still out there somewhere. Lard have published several cassettes and continue te record. Ydde Nesnay is totally out of sight. AR/TE supposedly lives in Berlin. AMVK continues to work. Anton LaVey passed away on 29 October 1997.

A restored version of original artworks by AMVK on the 19 Enochian Keys will be featured in an exhibition at Kunstmuseum Luzern as of 15 August 2008. The Kunstmuseum is organising a large retrospective of AMVK's drawings and films in co-operation with Wiels in Brussels. The movie "39 Steps vs. 19 Keys" will also be shown in the museum. At the opening night in Luzern there will be a dj-set by none other than Carl Cryplant.

Carl Cryplant - 13 HitSodomy (C-60 cassette)

A-01 - 19th Nervous Breakdown
A-02 - I'll Be Your Mirror
A-03 - Lucifer Sam
A-04 - I'm Eighteen
A-05 - The Man Who Sold the World
A-06 - Buick Mackane

B-01 - Holidays in the Sun
B-02 - Ghost Rider
B-03 - Gut Feeling
B-04 - Dish it Out
B-05 - Something Came Over Me
B-06 - Mindphaser

13 HitSodomy is the first exploit of Carl Cryplant. It was distributed in 1985 by Club Moral with zero information apart from the title tracks and the names of the composers. All tracks are sodomised versions of music popular with many young people at the time and in the tradition of the numerous "13 Original Hits" compilations that came out in the 1970s and 1980s. No digital manipulation or computers were involved in the making and recording of this music. These tracks are all made with the use of a turntable, two synthesizers and a microphone, all recorded straight onto a Maxell Metaxial MX 60 cassette, no remastering, no bullshitting.

19th Nervous Breakdown by Jagger, Richard & Cryplant is wrecked up and mangled like a nervous breakdown should really sound like. I'll Be Your Mirror by Reed & Cryplant is mirrored and reverbed. Lucifer Sam by Barrett & Cryplant is hashed and mashed in a druggy fashion. I'm Eighteen by Bruce, Cooper, Dunaway, Smith, Buxton & Cryplant sounds like a musical fart of any youngster in their parent's face. The Man Who Sold the World by Bowie & Cryplant has a synthesized bum collecting money outside the supermarket. Buick Mackane by Bolan & Cryplant is like a monster coming slowly. Search and Destroy by Pop, Williamson & Cryplant has some pretty destruction going on at the buttons of the synths and the mixer. Holidays in the Sun by Cook, Jones, Rotten, Vicious & Cryplant have an army marching over it. Ghost Rider by Rev, Vega & Cryplant is pretty feedbacked in the exhaust system. Gut Feeling by Mothersbaugh, Mothersbaugh and Cryplant has Carl puking out the contents of his stomach. Dish it Out by Chance & Cryplant is dished out with frenzied filter attacks. Something Came Over Me by Carter, Christopherson, P-Orridge, Tutti & Cryplant has an ocean overwhelming it. Mindphaser by Reuter, Bennett, McKay & Cryplant is the first and unequivocal danceable mix of any Whitehouse tune.

Carl Cryplant has been living as a recluse in a small shack next to the railway track in the small village of Mirwart in the Belgian Ardennes ever since. Until early 2006 when he suddenly popped up with some new tunes posted on various music websites like MySpace, Get Your Bootleg On, SoundClick, Multiply, Breakbeat Paradise and various DJ and mash-up forums.
In all 7 new sodomised hits were recorded, now with additional digital resources next to his trustworthy analog synthesizers. The Beat Goes On by Sonny, Cher & Cryplant features a stunning and steaming guest vocal by Sally Cryplant. Breathe by Skint, Howlett, Maxim & Cryplant is the ultimate breathing lesson from post-war Germany to Jonestown. I Think I'm Paranoid by Garbage & Cryplant is Carl imagining he's Salvador Dali for what it's worth, and that's a lot! Billion Dollar Babies by Bruce, Buxton, Dunaway, Smith & Cryplant is turned into a very fast and sick moneymaking game featuring Ed Kemper playing around with erased heads. I Wanna Be Sedated by Ramone & Cryplant turns punk into a war carnival. You Don't Own Me by Gore & Cryplant is the sound of Carl beaten up by all the people who want to own him, or maybe the by ones whose tunes he disowned. Praise You by Slim & Cryplant brings on Mahatma Gandhi and a full posse of Hare Krishna singers. The Jean Genie by Bowie & Cryplant is an ode to Jean Genet and to theft.
You won't find these goodies in this podcast, but you can use your google skills to find them because they're out there!

Apart from his own music production, Carl Cryplant is also a talented DJ known to brighten up many a party with his noteworthy knowledge of obscure loony tunes and weird covers by fellow musicians. All of his DJ-sets are available through his podcast page at
Carl Cryplant Podcast

Members of this Club Moral Stocklist mailing have been curiously also noticed of new episodes of Carl Cryplant's podcast episodes, sometimes source of great anger and resulting in hatemail in poor Carl's inbox. Well, you got all those because Carl Cryplant is an alias of DDV.

DDV - Now I Am Death (Super8 movie / E-30 vhs video)

"Now I Am Death" is a Super8 movie by DDV. Originally titled "Now I Am Death, the Destroyer of the World", it was originally made for an exhibition "Young Artists from Antwerpen in Gent" in 1983. The exhibition was spread over three venues: the Campo Santo cemetary in Sint-Amandsberg, Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens in Deurle and De Gele Zaal in Gent.

While the people were walking around on the opening of the exhibition on the Campo Santo cemetary, I was digging a grave underneath a tree. When it was finished I lay down and the grave was covered with earth and finished with chains and a cross by Ross Cannon of ProduKtion. I stayed buried for about 45 minutes until everybody had to leave to go to the second part of the exhibition by a special bus.
While everybody was on the other location, I transported the grave to the third and final location of the exhibition. There the grave was reconstructed, me laying upside down in it, with a chain attached to my feet.
As the people came in, main lights were turned off and the film and a slide-series were started. Then I was pulled out by my feet out of the grave by use of a pulley by Paul Hurst of ProduKtion. My body was hanging in front of the projectors, images projected onto human body. In a microphone I repeated the words ""Now I Am Death, the Destroyer of the World". The sound went into a synthesizer, treated by Paul Hurst, distorting the words in loud hellish sound-bursts.
(description of performance by DDV)

This film is a special re-arranged shoot for home-video made by Club Moral and V2 in 1985. Camera by AMVK & Alex Adriaansens. Sound by Club Moral.

Jonge Kunstenaars uit Antwerpse

Sisser

"Now I Am Death" became a classic on Club Moral's repertoire and was performed live on several occasions, each time with DDV hanging upside down doing the vocals. The slides used in the original performance (and barely visible on the movie) included works by AMVK.

Ross Cannon died in his native Tasmania in 1992 (November 16, 1957 - May 11, 1992), the whereabouts of Paul Hurst are still unknown.

The newspaper article writer BdB is most probably Bart De Baere, in the meantime director of Reformuhka.

AMVK - 19 Keys vs 39 Steps (Super8 movie / E-30 vhs video)

"19 Keys" by Club Moral has been a major project and an all time 'classic' in the repertoire since 1983. It is originally a Super8 film by AMVK "19 Enochian Keys vs 39 Steps of A. Hitchcock".
"Confrontation of the devilish mechanisms of film-making with the 19 Satanic Rituals to evoke the Devil’s help. The structure of the movie was built on 19 stills of Alfred Hitchcock’s film 'The 39 Steps'. The movie was mostly accompanied by a live music mix of Arnold Schoenberg’s 'Erklärte Nacht' and DDV chanting the Enochian version of the ritual texts to be performed during the original rituals, found in the notorious book of Anton Szandor Lavey, 'The Satanic Bible'.
The story is about 3 friends , a fight and a murder."
(AMVK, film synopsis)

Acting in the film are AMVK, DDV, Dirk Paesmans and Koen Theys (V-Side). Most of the scenes were filmed in the V-Side's house in Gent, where the actors had to improvise with whatever was available to act out the stills that were shown to us.
"On the one hand: The 19 Enochian Keys are the 19 ways to evoke the Devil's help and this is in Enochian, the most brutal, forceful and oldest language on earth. On the other hand: The film 'The 39 Steps' of A. Hitchcock is a weapon, a snaketongue, a story of treason and halfbaken reservation. The reason why we must identify with the protagonist is that he is possessed of no dark secret. Hitchcock is a magician who works with willpower, fear of incarceration, awareness of the force of evil, using secret plots and arch villains, playing with moral fear and eliminating blondes under a constant threat of sexual violence."
(AMVK, Force Mental 7, autumn 1983)

The film was first presented on 20 june 1983 at ProduKtion-HAIR, the hairdressing salon of Paul Hurst and Ross Cannon, and also at the time the one and only place where one could buy Come Organisation products and Whitehouse tapes & records. For this occasion AMVK also made a series of prints and 4 paintings on plexi that were on show for a week.
"In the very small space of ProduKtion-HAIR I hung 10 transparant plastic folios on rubber wires. The folios hang in a certain order, and represent the 19 Enochian Keys. These keys are each on one side of a folio presented by a combination of images of myself, buildings, people in hypnosis and trance. With the exhibition goes a film '39 Enochian Keys vs 39 Steps of A. Hitchcock', in which I make a comparison between the demonic manner of filmmaking of A. Hitchcock on one hand, and the 19 ways of evoking the devil on the other hand."
(AMVK, Hersens met Horens, 1983)

On this first occasion the film was shown twice, once with DDV chanting the Enochian Keys in Enochian and once in English, both times sitting handcuffed in the barber's chair and his head down in the sink.

The film "19 Enochian Keys vs 39 Steps of A. Hitchcock" has always been shown with the according live soundtrack on several occasions since then.
A cassette with live recordings of the soundtrack was published as a cassette earlier. It is also available on our stocklist as #031.

At a later stage we also made a compilation "19 Keys/19 Bands" with 19 industrial bands performing one of the 19 Enochian Keys each.

AMVK - De 4 Uitersten (16mm movie / E-10 vhs video)

De 4 Uitersten (The 4 Extremities) is a 16mm movie by AMVK, based on 4 series of small paintings, and drawings. The paintings were all done on 10cm by 15cm plates of plexiglass, and used as stills in a rhythmic animation expressing each one of the 4 Extremities. Inbetween are rotoscopic animations of 4 dances by Marc Vanrunxt. The Faustian personage leading you into the movie is Guy Cassiers. The animation of a man ripping off his clothes is DDV.

A film built according to the logic of the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jezuit Order. Death, the Ordeal, Hell and Devine Glory are the four extremities of the Jezuits. Those are the phases one has to go through to attend a state of mercy wherein sin, Evil, can be restrained. I figured out my own extremities whereby I conclude, through banality and repetition, sacrifice and devotion, that Evil exists by the grace of Good, and vice versa.

(Marc Ruyters in De Morgen, 16 mei 1984)

De 4 Uitersten was shown at numerous occasions at art and film events, and for some time it was also projected as an introduction for Club Moral concerts.
Marc Vanrunxt continues to work as a choreographer.
Guy Cassiers is artistic director of Toneelhuis in Antwerpen. His play Atropa is premiering on 15 may 2008. Atropa is the third part of his Triptiek van de macht (Triptych of power), following on from Mephisto for ever and Wolfskers.

DDV - Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar (A5 xerox calendar)

A-01 - Privémilicia
A-02 - untitled
A-03 - untitled
A-04 - untitled
A-05 - untitled
A-06 - Hij Die Geen Hoofd Heeft Zal Geen Kroon Dragen

DDV's Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar is a daily listing of events in history until this day. It was first published in 1985. It involves no audio, but for your pleasure we include some tracks from a live performance by DDV at Club Moral on 2 november 1983, the opening night of his exhibition "Privémilicia".

"So, you have joined in the victories of crime, disaster and death, this is the only way, you have bought the BIRTH(+)FACT(x)DEATH(-)CALENDAR. From now on you also can rejoice in private celebrations, add seductive dates to your worthless life so far. Now the time has come for you to enslave the great masters.
Drink like an animal on SHAKESPEARE's birth-death-day, eat violently on the BOBBY SANDS memorial day, and praise the lord on RIPPER murder-days.
You can now pinch your testicles as LARRY EYLER killed before you, rejoice in sodomy when SADE was born, rejoice in blood when KURTEN died, scratch your legs when young KENNEDY his was amputated, stroke with tenderness & love your breasts & nipples on the day JACK slaughtered CATHERINE EDDOWES.
Drive into the country on your bike when LAWRENCE OF ARABIA crashed to hell on his and don't shit on the day LIVINGSTONE died. Sing in your shower when CARUSO sang in "L'elesir d'amour" and have your hands & feet manicured in memory of JOHN FARE. Eat fish for SCHWARZKOGLER and smoke a cigarette for DALI.
In short, enjoy your life now it has become worthy to have your favourites to celebrate day by day."

The Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar has been available throughout 2007 as a daily blog on wheniwasbuyingyouadrinkwherewereyou.blogspot.com with additional photos taken by DDV in the past eight years.

When I was waiting in a bar where were you ?
When I was buying you a drink where were you ?
When I was crying home in bed where were you ?
When I watched you from a distance did you see me ?
You were standing in a queue did you see me ?
You had yellow hair did you see me ?
I want to talk to you all night do you like me ?
I want to find out about your life do you like me ?
Could you ever be my wife do you love me ?

Goodbye.

In Vitro was an exhibition that took place in Club Moral, from 21st of june until 31st of august 1984. Open each thursday, friday and saturday from 2 until 6 pm.
In Vitro presented products of independent editors, people and groups. These products were mainly magazines, books, cassettes, records, objects, films and videos.
Towards the end of the exhibition we published a xerox catalogue which listed all exhibited products. Since we are unable to podcast printed matter we dug up a documentary video of the exhibition. It was filmed with a Black&White security camera furnished by Dirk Paesmans. The soundtrack is a compilation of several tracks from records and tapes that were in the exhibition.
A unique oldskool document with many shots of tapes, records, books, magazines and objects by the contributors and/or additional artworks by:

ProduKtion / Club Moral - Pro-Breendonk (C-30 cassette + postcard set)

A-01 - Introduction
A-02 - Untitled (ProduKtion)
B-01 - Untitled (DDV)
B-02 - Untitled (DDV)
B-03 - Untitled (DDV)
B-04 - Untitled (DDV)
B-05 - Untitled (DDV)

This tape is a documentary issue about a number of performances and recordings by Paul Hurst and DDV in the WWII concentration camp of Breendonk, Belgium.
In July 1984 Paul and Christine of ProduKtion were living at the Club Moral in Antwerp. At previous mainland travels, they had been visiting many WWII memorials all over Europe. Breendonk was little known at the time, although it was probably the most well preserved example of a concentration (not extermination) camp. Originally built in 1909 as a fort to protect Antwerp from enemy attacks, it was officially targeted as a concentration camp on 20 september 1940, when the first prisoners came under authority of Sturmbahnführer Philip Schmitt. For more information on Breendonk check the excellent website of www.breendonk.be.

Track A-02 was recorded during a live performance at the execution site of the camp with portable, battery-equipped radios and cassette-players.
Tracks B-01 - B-05 are based on recordings of performances in various rooms of the camp and later edited.

Along with the tape came a set of eight postcards, based on the original design of postcards available at the camp, with pictures of the performances by ProduKtion and DDV.

This release was a co-production of Club Moral and ProduKtion.

On 7 may 1946 several Belgian SS men were sentenced to death for cruelties committed upon prisoners. They were executed by the firing squad on 12 april 1947. Commandant Philip Johann Adolf Schmitt was sentenced to death on 25 november 1949 in Antwerpen. He was executed by the firing squad on 9 september 1950 in Hoboken.
In 2003 a complete renovation was done, but still Breendonk remains a must-see for anybody interested in WWII and the Nazi regime. The fort is open every day of the year except 1 january and 24/25 december.

I still don't have any trace of Paul Hurst....

This tape was released to document a series of Club Moral performances that were organised all over the country in Belgium.
In Cirque Divers, Liège, we played with Etat Brut. In Stalker, Brussels, we were alone as far as I remember. In Daizelhof, Dadizele, we played with Angst aka Dansgroep De Knol and AR/TE. In JC Den Uil, Zwijndrecht, we were alone. And in Gladhouse, Leuven, we played with Didi De Paris. The tracks recorded in Club Moral are all by DDV and were recorded on a performance on the occasion of his exhibition "Privémilicia". The track "Privémilicia" is from a tapeloop in a sculpture by DDV, now in the collection of Paul De Hert.
On all occasions we also showed Super8 films during our performance, some of these are available on our MySpace or YouTube.
The sound quality on most of these recordings is not the best, apologies for that.

Frank Heirman in Het Vrije Waasland, maart 1984.

Propagandum (C-90 cassette + xerox booklet)

A-01 - 19 Keys
A-02 - Interview Geert-Jan Hobijn
A-03 - Club Moral
A-04 - ProduKtion
A-05 - Didi de Paris
B-01 - DDV
B-02 - Angst
B-03 - FistFuck

Propagandum was an event organised by Club Moral at NL-Centrum, Amsterdam on 25 feb 1984, in cooperation with ProduKtion, and with the full support of the NL-Centrum, De Kapel and Staalplaat.
The big colonnade of NL-Centrum was rebuilt into a great cathedral, consisting out of a main altar Propagandum wherein casts of parts of the bodies of AMVK and DDV and 400-year-old Monk skulls. This surrounded with broken glass and heavy chains. On this altar also a pot with boiling pork fat mixed with engine oil. The room was divided in different fields, each field mastered by an altar, or wall-paintings, towards the activity that took place in it.
A short report of the events on 25th february 1984:
Club Moral started with the showing of "39 Steps/19 Keys" with live sound and calling of the Keys in Enochian. Then a short but powerful concert by Club Moral. Second on the programme were V-Side/Dirk Paesmans - Koen Theys. For them 2 stakes, in memory of the inquisition, the TV as a fire under the crackling straw, the accused chained to poles. Dirk Paesmans chose not to come, he was replaced by the usual straw puppet. Koen Theys was put in the chains while underneath him his tape "Diana" was the fire. After this time for ProduKtion, a small cinema, in Auschwitz-style on gravel standing cinema seats flanked by two Kings' graves on which the figures of Paul Hurst and Christine Glover in stone with casts of their hands and faces. The films projected over the heads of the spectators, sound: shortwave distortion played live by Paul Hurst. Then "Now I am Death, the Destroyer of the World": DDV hung upside-down and screaming loud "Now I am Death" with film and slides and sound distortion by AMVK. Midnight: time for Angst/God to celebrate a one-hour-long Holy Mass. Cut-ups of schlagers, interviews, sounds and music in hellish tempo, all this on an almost classic simple altar, with family slides above the head of the high priest in Marks & Spencer outfit. Until now everything was roared fluently but with certain dirtiness to each other by "The Beast", Didi de Paris who coloured the events with selected texts. In the end, by surprise: Alsatan Dogs aka FistFuck. Roger Rogerson small crying on organ, fist-painting on the wall, a dog. Roger is the dog, grawling and crying. Crystal Belle wants everybody out. Exciting in rubber she hits greedy spectators with a leather belt. "Go away! It's over! Go away now! Go home! We want you out of here! Go away! All lights out: Go home! Go away! It's over! Go away! Go away!"
(report in Force Mental #9, p 270-271)

Propagandum was available in three versions: one in a plain cassette box with cover + photographic booklet by Club Moral, one in a plastic bag with black and gold printing in the Live Series of Staalplaat, and one in plain cassette box by ProduKtion.

On the occasion of Propagandum, Club Moral and ProduKtion also played in De Kapel in Den Haag.

The building of NL-Centrum at Rozengracht has been destroyed, their activities have been documented by a number of Staalplaat releases and excerpts of all bands that played at NL-Centrum appear on the double vinyl lp compilation "Q.E.D." (1987) by Play It Again, Sam (later re-released as cd). Appearing on the vinyl edition are Laibach, Die Form, Z'EV, SPK, Radio Rabotnik TV, Der Plan, Chris & Cosey, Non Toxique Lost, Het Zweet, Sprung Aus Den Wolken, Michel Banabila, The Hafler Trio, Konrad Becker:Monoton, Einstürzende Neubauten, Kleg, P16 D4, Peter Zegveld, Etant Donnés, Code Public, Club Moral, Zero Kama, S.B.O.T.H.I. and Test Department, on an additional 7" vinyl were The Legendary Pink Dots, Blurt and Marie Kawazu.
For a number of years the activities of NL-Centrum were continued by Triple X.
The main initiator and leader of NL-Centrum Franz Ferdinand Feigl died in Amsterdam on 24 september 2001 of cancer at the age of 43. Let his memory never fade away.

UPDATE: There are now three videos available related to "Propagandum". A 10-min documentary recording of the installations at NL-Centrum on YouTube, a short live excerpt of Club Moral's performance on our MySpace and an interview with DDV about performance at his MySpace.

(this appartementen: kompilatie offers you 23 tracks from bands that operate only in apartments. the pop-pulp received inside their rooms via radio is reworked, in the same room, into their own disentangled pseudo-'music'.)
None of these 'bands' have made other releases, and as far as we know Klapholz did not release any other products.
In the legendary 1984 "In Vitro" exhibition at Club Moral, Klapholz made a sculptural piece that existed of a plastic aquarium filled with green jelly and various artefacts.

Live performances have been very rare and usually contained a high degree of visual artwork and performance rituals (see also episode 29 of our Stocklist).
No further details about this release are available.

The Parts are:
DDV: vocals, synthesizers, rhythmbox, mouth organ
AMVK: vocals, synthesizers, police whistle
Erik Vloeberghs: lyrics, synthesizer on the "listings".

This tape was released as "GBC 015" on Gezonde Boerse Copulaties (Healthy Boorish Copulations) by Erik Vloeberghs. The idea was to make pop music with the united forces of the great songwriter Erik Vloeberghs, the unique frontman and stage animal DDV, and the fingerspitzen keyboard virtuosa AMVK.
Vloeberghs supplied the lyrics and some of the equipment like a drum machine (we don't remember which one) and a tape-delay to add to Club Moral's synthorium of a Wasp, a Korg MS-50 and the unequivocal FBT. All the songs were recorded in single takes on a six channel Traynor mixer/amplifier and a plain cassette-deck. No remixing or additional mastering was done.
The lyrics are based on long and intense correspondence between Erik Vloeberghs and Club Moral, and they also form the basis of his later literary work which continues until today.

Cageman

I'm hiding in my foxhole
Like all my ancestors did
Loud is the flower of education
Anxious for what might happen
And what I might forget
The police said foreigners call me a stinking rat
Because I'm not quite fat
Work and pray you cageman
God's got a cageplan for you
I'm hiding in my foxhole
Watching TV, playing sex games
Loud is the flower of convincion
Hiding out for strangers I just can't understand them
Why do they have to talk so much
Why do they have to talk so much
They didn't like me so they captured me
They didn't like me so they captured me
And now I'm watching channel 3
All my life All my life
I surrendered with open arms
Then they killed my wife
And I still don't know why
But I say they got to do their job, no?
Yeah they got to do their job
Work and pray you cageman
God's got hundred calls you were at
A stinking rat
But he's got a cageplan for you
Cageman

The Parts never played live, and apart from one track on "De Heistse Zotten" (GBC 12) nothing has ever been released anywhere else. The only track that eventually did make it as a "hit" was "Nazis of the Night", which also appeared on Club Moral's Lp "To All Who Are Interested" (Cthulhu Records 1989). It is still a classic throughout Germany and France, and when Club Moral played in Berlin at the Ironfest festival in 2003, people came begging at 5.00 in the morning to play that song. The track has also been covered by the German band "Bastards of Love" on their super rare vinyl "Privatvergnügen". "Overfuck" is supposed to be cover of "Overkill" by Motörhead.

A review from "Open System Project" n°6 / mars avril 84.
"Que peut-on attendre d'une association "Erik Vloeberghs + Danny Devos & Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven"..? Tout... bien sûr... si on est bien servi...
humour (?) noir et froid... dans les lyrics d'E.V.... "I don't wanna fight against the system - because the system is allright... Don't kill the cops - they're people too..." rythmbox obsédente... voix aigre-doux d'AMVK... et parfois franchement aigre (!) cynisme sinistre... etc... etc...
"My mouth's my gun - and my action's a lot of fun"... (from "Banzai!). (J.P. Devresse)"

There was a slight attempt last year from Ultra Eczema to re-release The Parts on vinyl, but Dennis the Kid with the Small Weener chickened out.

Wanna see The Parts live? They will play a couple of songs live this friday -27 july 2007- at the "Renovation Part III" event, Oosterweelse Steenweg 3, 2030 Antwerpen. Doors at 21.00hrs.
Other bands: Heavy Indians, Miguel Sosa, Deepsrof, Ludo Mich & The Joyous Cosmology. Dj's: DLN, Roggeblood, Even Plassen Tony & Carl Cryplant.

The Simpletones - Wir Sind Wieder Da! (12" 45rpm vinyl)

A-01 - Wir Sind Wieder Da!
A-02 - Sagt Es Laut Ich Bin Weiss Ich Bin Stolz
B-01 - Na, Ich Bin Fertig

"Wir Sind Wieder Da!" was released in 1983 on DISCipline recOrds, a label from Johan De Smet that released only one item.

The original Simpletones are Johan De Smet on guitar and Rudy Cabie on electric organ. The music is consists of a variety of combinations of the same 3 notes played over & over. There exists an unpublished tape with the basic principle on guitar only.
In the early years The Simpletones only played during performances by DDV. The first occasion was AMVK's exhibition "Basic" at Art Something in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on 12 sept 1980. More information on the performances of DDV and The Simpletones here.
By 1983 the 3-note concept on guitar & electric organ was expanded to a big band with up to 12 musicians. On this album are playing: Johan Boonaert - trumpet, Joris Buysse - flute, Rudy Cabie - organ, Vincent D'Hondt - piano & organ & synthesizer, Johan De Smet - electric & acoustic guitar & organ & percussion, Louis Dekoninck - trumpet, Dirk Demeulemeester - trumpet, Danny Devos - vocals, Michel Mast - tenor sax, Luc Reuse - clarinet, Xavier Verhelst - double bass, Peter Vermeersch - soprano & baritone sax & bass clarinet. The cover was designed by Herr Seele & Willy Plompen.

This release has previously been posted on the excellent "Mutant Sounds" blog. Eric Lumbleau called it "Giddy, zippy new wave-infllected instrumental art rock of an exceeding fetching persuasion that passingly glances off of Honeymoon Killers-like cartoonish ambulation, Jules Baptiste cum Six Cylindres En V effervescent horn charting and the mid-80's downtown NY-isms of Don King and The Ordinaires. Terrifically fun shite."

The Simpletones recorded a full cd "Einfach" in 1993. Johan Desmet continues to make music, including several operas and soundtracks for theatre plays. Rudy Cabie died a couple of years ago. DDV continues Diggin' for Gordon

B-02 - New Super Detergent
B-03 - Monologue
B-04 - Enemy
B-05 - Fanfare
B-06 - Machines 1, 2, 3, 4

"Poisonous Fragrances" was the first and only release by Augusto Klamm (real name is Serge Decraemer) on his own label "The Careerists" A few copies exist with ink smearings and handwritten titles on the cover, the Club Moral release has a plain xerox cover. The recordings were made in 1982-83, the tape was released in late 1983.

All the tracks were recorded in Augusto Klamm's apartment in a HLM building in Jette (a Brussels suburb) where he lived with his mother. No instruments were used, only a (broken) microphone, feedback noise and some shortwave radio sounds. The A-side is actually a collection of bits and pieces, selected and cut into a long diary-type track. Side B has distinct separate tracks.
This tape is a very rare pioneer work from this outsider artist. Augusto Klamm has never been involved with any other music production, never played live, although he was an avid follower of the Belgian Noise scene. Yet these recording bear a hard to find kind of originality and unique music creation. With a minimum of equipment "Poisonous Fragrances" manages to create a gripping sound atmosphere.

A review from "Open System Project" magazine n°6 / mars avril 84.
"bruitage industriel à haut niveau de saturation, voix méconnaissables et torturées, agonie sonore, fracas de ferraille sur fond de crissements atridents."

This tape has previously been posted on the excellent "Mutant Sounds" blog.

Augusto Klamm also appears on Club Moral's "19 Keys/19 Bands" compilation, forthcoming on this stocklist.

"Pig and Face" was released in 1983 as GBC 11. "GBC" stands for Gezonde Boerse Copulaties (Healthy Boorish Copulations), it was a label by Erik Vloeberghs.

"The Firing Squad" was a one-time recording project with Erik Vloeberghs on vocals and probably some 'Kwajongens in Bloei' on instruments. They never played live except for once when they were supposed to play but the guitarist got involved in a serious car accident. "Pig and Face" was the first in a series of projects where Vloeberghs attempted to make popular music with his own ingredients. A second notable attempt was "The Parts", on which we'll report in a forthcoming episode of our stocklist.
Nothing further is known about "The Firing Squad", and the free lyric booklet that is mentioned on the cassette cover presumably never existed.

Therefore.... some google results for "Pig and Face":
"A spice from the dark black all her pig and face some blonde cypress. Pool you for a ass or sex class large a blonde. Hardcore hardcore fit bald cypress tree with a bald. Pregnant sweet rubbing after big sucking and blonde tree. Huge monster steps with bald as a mature babe gets her."

"Greatest Hits" was released in 1983 as GBC 07. "GBC" stands for Gezonde Boerse Copulaties (Healthy Boorish Copulations), was a label by Erik Vloeberghs, successor of his previous label "ZZ".

"Greatest Hits" contains the best from earlier tapes "Live" and "De Witte Villa" on the previous lable ZZ ZZZ as well as some unreleased older and new tracks. "Very diverse and humerous. Pieces à la Come Org. (Rabies) to disco-stampers (Angst Disco Show). A must for anybody who hates Henk Van der Meyden.
Take special notice of the track "Rabies (Hydrophobia)", it starts off with a Frankenstein-type Iron Man figure climbing up the stairs (to Vloeberghs' room?). Upon entering the room a harsh noise track takes over and mangles the Iron Man with lots of distortion. This is one of the best noise tracks ever produced, an aural picture of pure motiveless violence turning into triumph over its own destruction. The track abruptly ends when Vloeberghs' dad enters the room. This is the conversation that follows: "Are you making everything crazy here or what is this? Is it that loud? I'll stop then. Is it loud? Stop with that. I don't hear it when it's loud. You don't hear it? You should go see a doctor then, it's urgent. Go to Vietnam or go wherever you want, what is this?. Well."

Various Artists - Equinox Event (C-90 cassette + A5-booklet)

B-05 - Club Moral - Buig Nooit en Buig voor Niemand
B-06 - Club Moral - Jack the Ripper in Heaven

The "Equinox Event" was the first major UK/European extreme noise music festival. It was organised by Mary Dowd and ProduKtion on 21 june 1983 at the Musicians' Co-op in London, United Kingdom.
There were a whole bunch of bands scheduled to play, and the event was widely publicised in quite a few noise music magazines at the time. Many die-hard fans from all over the UK, Germany, France, Holland flocked to London to witness it. However, lack of organisation skills and money caused some bands to fail for appearance. Etat Brut only played 'hit and run' concert that would allow them to drive up, play, and drive back to Brussels the same night. A 4-hour ferry crossing was not an option. V-Side, barely surviving in their Gent quarters had no funding at all to travel. So that left only Club Moral to represent the mainland.
As mentioned in the previous episode of our podcast, the Equinox Event was initiated with an exhibition by AMVK and performance by Club Moral at ProduKtion-HAIR on 20 june 1983.
We spent a whole week in Mary Dowd's basement apartment, where every room including the kitchen and even the refrigerator was painted in black. Every day we went out it was as if came out of a nightclub, the only living being that supposedly survived there, apart from Mary Dowd, was a huge dog, living on a can of tinned food a day.
The Equinox Event. Well it looked a lot like a Wasp synthesizer event, since almost every band was using one. And yes, the Equinox Event attracted quite some strange folk. While most of you probably weren't even born, spending some innocent youth in the country, or hey, daring the first steps of a certain punk attitude, these bands were proclaiming violence, perverted sex, torture and wicked magick. But on the other hand there were also 15-year-old Philip Best, experimenting with beer and a shortwave radio, William Bennett, experimenting with more beer and pseudo-political activism, and Steven Stapleton aka "Nurse With Wound", experimenting with even more beer. The "Mystery Guest band" announced on the flyer were to be Whitehouse. They couldn't be named on the flyer because they were 'banned' at the Musicians' Co-op. Supposedly Best was dumped by Mary Dowd in an unsatisfying love affair, subsequently he joined Whitehouse and wrote "Tit Pulp" (dedicated to Mary Dowd), and so both were banned from the Equinox Event. Best nevertheless got lively once in a while whining and screaming "Disco Shit!" (see also our "White Power" podcast episode), Bennett might have thrown an empty beer-bottle towards the stage (but there is no evidence of that), and Stapleton got into an argument with a drunken fellow who pulled out his private parts at a certain point and started pissing all over the place, including Steven's pants. All three were not ready for that kind of Aktionism, so they soon turned their heels to the Musicians' Co-op and headed for the bar across the street to rant further on.
The Equinox Event nevertheless continued. I remember (the late) Ross Cannon having a chair cracked on his head, and using another chair to wear off more bottles while we played, but yes, the mood was on. Ramleh performed their classic "Return to Slavery", Dogs Blood Order happened to be the first performance of what later would be Current 93 (on this occasion with David Tibet, John Murphy and Roger Smith - their track was later renamed "Maldoror Ceases to Exist"), the Death and Beauty Foundation delivered quite a speech and Jill Westwood presented and early performance piece in chains. Ake set the standard with "Rape" and Pure continued to "Rip Out of the World". Krank aka John Murphy performed an agonising soundscape and finally Club Moral set out some stunning versions of "Exces Kontrol", "Pinta", "Buig Nooit en Buig voor Niemand" and "Jack the Ripper" (while AMVK played the organ, DDV placed an axe in the Musicians' Co-op's floor and left the stage, marking the end of the Equinox Event) finalising "In Heaven".
Throughout the recording you can hear the occasional bottle flying through the air, some serious arguments going on with members of the audience, and over & over again Ross Cannon throwing off would-be offenders from the stage.

The cassette came with a 12-page A5 booklet of photographs by Toni Rogerson. Some of these were also published in Force Mental 7. The cover of both cassette and booklet sport a picture of DDV in the performance of "Buig Nooit en Buig voor Niemand", setting fire to some equipment with a blowtorch in an attempt to weld a piece of metal around his leg.
The tape was mastered by R.T. Smith.

There is a noteworthy bootleg release of the Equinox Event by noteworthy member of the audience Graf Haufen. It's a double C-90 cassette in a special package and it has the complete recordings of all the bands' performances.

In the years after this landmark event, many have tried to recapture the spirit of the Equinox Event, but none have succeeded. In spite of all the chaos and the panic and the smalltalk and the brawls and the riots and the discomfort and last but not least all the pissing around, the Equinox Event has remained a landmark in the era of noise music. Either you were one involved or either you just weren't there.

Anyway, Mary, if you are out there - thanks a lot for having us at your place and at your festival - all the best from DDV.

Club Moral - 19 Keys (C-90 cassette)

A-01 - 19 Keys (Enochian)
B-01 - 19 Keys (English)
B-02 - Hail to Thee Black Prince

"19 Keys" by Club Moral has been a major project and an all time 'classic' in the repertoire since 1983. It is originally a Super8 film by AMVK "19 Enochian Keys vs 39 Steps of A. Hitchcock". This tape is a recording of the live soundtrack.

On the recording you can hear the actual sound of the projector running.

The track "Hail to Thee Black Prince", also a satanic ritual, was recorded live at the Equinox Event on 21 june 1983 in London.

The film "19 Enochian Keys vs 39 Steps of A. Hitchcock" has always been shown with the according live soundtrack on several occasions since then.

At a later stage we also made a compilation "19 Keys/19 Bands" with 19 industrial bands performing one of the 19 Enochian Keys.

"The Satanic Bible" was published in 1969 by Anton Szandor LaVey. The book is available from Amazon.
"The 19 Enochian Keys" are available as a pdf from All-Magick.
"The 39 Steps" was directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1935, based on a novel by John Buchan. The film is available as a free download from the Internet Archive.

AMVK - Hersens met Horens (A4 xerox-book)

"Hersens met Horens" (Brain with Horns) is a catalogue of all exhibitions and publications by AMVK from 1976 to 1983. There is a short descriptive text in dutch and english and when available pictures and/or illustrations from every event. Since it isn't possible to podcast printed matter (or pdfs), we illustrate this episode with a Super8-movie by AMVK "Place is where the Mind is". The movie was shot in and around Club Moral in 1982. Appearing are: AMVK, DDV, M.Bryo, Willy Tielemans,....

The nuance between feeling something and feeling obliged to feel something exists. 100% feeling thus appears very rare. The aiming now for a conscious and pure interpreting of reality can only come through by means of pure control.
The first step to the anew conscious experience of your own feelings is to get independence against the influences of your education, the milieu wherein this happened, the milieu in which you are now and external attacks, especially publicity, for products as for ideologies and norms for behaviour.
An individual emotional world is necessary for the conscious-renewment which the pure reality-urge brings along. We thus create for ourselves the possibility to understand the nowadays world, to experience it bodily and to appreciate it.
This of course fully aware that from higher on a lot of useful and important information is kept behind. The monopoly by stipulating organs on the knowledge of the evolution. This of course fully aware of all political manipulation, our impotence against every big power.
But watch it! This conscious-renewment act is a very difficult, very dangerous process. You can loose your personality (because you neutralize each inborn grip), you can become schizophrenic (because you always look to yourselves from a distance) or you can, in view of change, get back to the consciousness before (extreme in this way that it, confused with the aim, leads to inadmissible points of view. The power outward.).
The purpose of this whole operation is the new individual which has a very high power of perception, sharp, justified critic and a constant radiation of inner truth.
This pure individual is able, without hidden motives to make contacts with others. His openness makes every communicating act a delight and a useful element for his own evolution.
This state of un-enmity creates a sphere in which each body responds to the mind in it. The impulse instinct-mind-ratio becomes superfluous. The body reacts pure, without inner codes. Man controls his own nature, in complete freedom. The rational dissection of each others acts becomes superfluous, these become one with the always changing and itself-defining universe.
Each short fase of life forms a coherent whole without reasoning, and it is made out of coordinated facets which only register the useful elements out of surrounding and time.
The whole thus becomes a matter of attracting and repulsing of usable feelings and circumstances, useful in view of our own evolution.
By individual training one starts to get surrounded slowly with the right circumstances, human contacts and ideas. An optimal use of each energy is guaranteed. One can hardly imagine what the word 'frustration' means.
Each human being gets in this way the knowledge to develop constantly positive in a conscious state under constant inner control and in benefit of an unlimited naturalness.

A.R./T.E. - Macht/Onmacht (C-60 cassette)

A-01 - Macht
A-02 - Infectie 01
B-01 - Onmacht
B-02 - Infectie 02

"Macht Onmacht" (Power/Impotence) by AR/TE was released in 1983 by Trudo Engels as TX 02. It is unclear what TX 01 was, either a xerox/silkscreen poster or postcard, or a live performance.

"Macht" was recorded live in Limelight, Kortrijk on 6 march 1983, on the "Nacht van de Industrie" - an industrial music festival. Apart from AR/TE also La Drôlesse, Angst, Club Moral and Einstürzende Neubauten played.
"Onmacht" was recorded live in Club Moral, Antwerpen on 15 nov 1982, on the occasion of "Objective Normandy" by V-Side (see episodes 20 & 21 of this stocklist podcast).

T.E./A.R. stood for Trudo Engels and an unnamed person sometimes referred to as 'Alma Rozay'. Trudo Engels was a sculptor, performer and installation artist. In his performance in Club Moral he performed a ritual of transformation by pulling the skin of a goat's head over another goat's head, recreating an object that would play a role in some of his later work as well. His installation work was usually on a very large scale with sculptures up to 28m in diameter. All his releases - 2 cassettes, a book and several flyers, postcards & posters used extensive xerox and silkscreen graphics.

As of 1984 he collaborated for several years with Els Huygelen, most notably in the performance and publication "corpulair".

In the late 1980's he founded "Plateau" a dance production platform in Brussels with Ida Devos. Later, and until today, the space changed into "Nadine", still focusing on dance and new media productions.

Trudo Engels now lives in Berlin, we don't know of any present artistic production. The goat's head featured in the 1983 exhibition "Van Drang tot Dwang" (with Claude Yande, V-Side, Erik Vloeberghs, Waving Ondulata, Etat Brut, La Drôlesse, Trudo Engels, Alex Adriaansens, Produktion, AMVK and DDV) in Club Moral and later mysteriously disintegrated and/or disappeared without a trace.

Bij ons alleen extreme dingen

ANTWERPEN.

Club Moral (zelf performers): "De hele denksfeer is tegenwoordig zo lauw.

One Hundred Poems from the Japanese - Burroughs (C-90 cassette)

A-01 - You Can Only Call the Old Doctor Once
B-01 - Captain C. Welcomes You on Board

"Burroughs" was released in 1983 as GBC 05. "GBC" stands for Gezonde Boerse Copulaties (Healthy Boorish Copulations), was a label by Erik Vloeberghs, successor of his previous label "ZZ".

"Burroughs" was probably recorded on or around 12-03-1983, as written on a snippet of paper that came with the tape. The recordings are based on tapes by William Burroughs. It is not clear and not mentioned on the tape who "One Hundred Poems from the Japanese" is/are.

Around the same time Erik Vloeberghs published the book "De Ziekte van Burroughs" (Burroughs' Disease). It contains letters (to Sandy Nys, Luk Stenuit, Sabine Puts, Club Moral, Guy De Bièvre, Flurk Notschaele, Chris Serré, Maandblad Komkommer, Madam De Smet, Mike Stout and Hans Barnard) from 1982 to 1983 and notes from 1981 to 1982. It is deposited at the National Library under D/1983/3791/3. Some notes:

A-01 - Untitled
A-02 - Live Kortrijk
B-01 - Untitled

"Strijd Tegen de Kerk" was released in 1984 as GBC 04. "GBC" stands for Gezonde Boerse Copulaties (Healthy Boorish Copulations), was a label by Erik Vloeberghs, successor of his previous label "ZZ".

"Strijd Tegen de Kerk" brings you sixty packed minutes including two long cut-up pieces that use found footage and recordings of television and radio programs with additional effects and synthesizer sounds, and a live-recording of an Angst performance. The main subjects in the cut-ups are political discussions with prime minister Wilfried Martens about the placement of US nuclear missiles in Belgium, and religious radio emissions. It also includes the cracking at the end of a Robert Wyatt record and manipulated bits of a Z'EV live performance. Subjects in the television and radio bits are nuclear weapons, crisis, depression, belief, Jesus Christ, sterilisation, menstruation, etc. The live bits were recorded at "Nacht van de Industrie" in Limelight, Kortrijk on 6 march 1983 - where also La Drôlesse, AR/TE, Club Moral and Einstürzende Neubauten played.

Earlier releases on GBC were two tapes from E.Coli and a re-release of the first Angst cassette. Around the same time Angst als published a (one of many) booklet Chemische Oorlogsvoering (Chemical Warfare) with a collection of cut-up poetry, collages and found photos. An excerpt:

Club Moral - Cross of the Good Death (C-30 cassette + poster)

A-01 - Drone - Ja/Oui
A-02 - Goede Dood/Good Death
A-03 - Death
B-01 - Never on Wednesdays in Heaven
B-02 - Now I Am Death

"Cross of the Good Death" was released in 1983 as a documentation of AMVK's exhibition "Hoeren en Profeten" at De Nieuwe Workshop in Brussels, and a performance by DDV at the Campo Santo cemetery in Gent.

The exhibition "Hoeren en Profeten" (Whores and Prophets) opened on 24 feb 1983. There were five series of works by AMVK:

  • 1.Hoeren (Tafels.Kruis)
  • 2.2Gevechten (Transport)
  • 3. 3Profeten (Graf)
  • 4.4Honden (Flexor.Relax)
  • 5.Lichamen (Dwaal!).
In the large back building, amongst large piles of rubbles various works were on show: paintings on perspex and mousse, drawings, blue-prints, mixed-media and drawings on the walls.
On the opening night Club Moral performed live. AMVK stood on a large wooden "Carruga" by DDV, reading the text of "Goede Dood" by Pieter Cornelis Boutens. At the same time DDV hacked away the legs of a giant table with an axe, the sound of the hacking amplified by contact microphones.

Goede Dood wiens zuiver pijpen
Door 't verstilde leven boort,
Die tot glimlach van begrijpen
Alle jong en schoon bekoort,

Voor wien kinderen en wijzen
Lachend laten boek en spel,
Voor wien maar verkleumde grijzen
Huivren in hun kille cel, -

Mij is elke dag verloren,
Die uw lokstem niet verneemt;
Want dit land van most en koren
Is mij immer schoon en vreemd;

Want nooit beurde ik hier te drinken
't Water dat de ziel verjongt,
Of van dichtbij hief te klinken
't Verre wijsje dat gij zongt:

Alle schoon dat de aard kan geven,
Blijkt een pad dat tot u voert,
En alleen is leven leven
Als het tot den dood ontroert.
Tracks 1, 2 & 3 include music from Arnold Schönberg, sounds from the movies "Never on Wednesdays" and "Eraserhead" and additional electronics.

Track 4 was recorded live on 17 sep 1983 on the occasion of an exhibition of Antwerp artists in Gent. "On the Campo Santo cemetary I digged a grave, when I lay in it it was closed. While the public was transported with buses to another location, I moved the grave to the Gele Zaal. There I was pulled out from it by my feet and movies and slides about Oppenheimer were projected onto my body, in a microphone I repeated: "Now I am death, the destroyer of worlds". The sound of my voice was electronically distorted into an unearthly grinding and thundering by Paul Hurst."
(from DDV's "Performan")

For the "Carruga" DDV built for the performance at De Nieuwe Workshop, he used a number of large beams from the floor of the building which was to be torn down. Afterwards it resided at the Club Moral in Antwerpen for a couple of years until it was refurbished and included in the 1985 Open Air exhibition "AutomoBiënnale" at the Middelheim Museum in Antwerpen. A huge metal cage was built on top and a running diesel engine was locked inside.
a short documentary movie on "Carruga"

"Goede Dood" is also a track on the first Club Moral Lp "To All Who Are Interested", released by Cthulhu Records in 1989.

After all the building at De Nieuwe Workshop wasn't torn down at all, it now houses a cultural centre "De Markten" and apparently they put in a new floor....

B-11 - Vlaamsche Leeuw

"CRS!" was released in 1983 as a 'concept album' about DDV's military service, which lasted just 9 days, from 8 till 16 dec 1982.

At the time military service in Belgium was obligatory and usually lasted 10 months. At the Centre for Recruitment and Selection at the "Klein Kasteeltje" in Brussels, candidates were tested for their capacities and medical and psychological condition.
On 8 dec 1982 at 08.18hrs DDV marched into the CRS, dressed in a military outfit, crew cut and his weight trimmed down to 47kgs. After fulfilling the necessary procedures and enrollment in the Belgian army preliminary tests started. At the first confrontation with options for the kind of duty to fulfill DDV insisted on an enrollment as fighter pilot. Instead he was sent to the Military Hospital of Neder-over-Heembeek for psychological testing and observation. After an admission of 8 days, the chief psychiatrist declared him unfit for military service, his final decision based on viewing DDV's "Performan" catalogue of performances between 1979 and 1982. On 18 january 1983 a re-examination commission declared recruit 83/14364 with id 154-200959-63 exempt and permanently unfit for military service.

The tracks on "CRS!" are based on field recordings with concealed microphones at the Centre for Recruitment in Brussels, the Military Hospital in Neder-over-Heembeek and a rally by the "Vlaamse Militanten Orde" in Kortrijk (recorded by F. Pinckers). Additional found footage originates from audio cassettes and videotapes found in garbage cans at militaria junk markets.
The original package included a poster with images and pictures and various paraphernalia, including a box of shoe polish. We couldn't find an original poster anymore, so the track titles are just a wild guess of what they could have been.

Etat Brut - H/M (C-30 cassette + xerox)

A - two pieces
B - eight pieces

"H/M" is EB 12 by Etat Brut. "H/M" stands for "Haine et Mépris" (Hate and Despise). It is their "Piece de Résistance" with 10 untitled pieces packed in 30 minutes. Merciless and uncompromising electronic sound in its most raw state, the purest "etat brut". None of the pieces bear titles, and the cover has no information about tracks either. There exists a xerox flyer announcing the tape. it states:

"Wij Zijn België" (We Are Belgium) was released in 1983, it was ZZ ZZZ 05 in the series by "Angst" (also see previous episodes of this podcast). ZZ ZZZ 04 was "Angst Levend". The 'Welfare' booklet contains interviews with Herbert de Rijck (KCN), Luc van den Bruel (E.Coli) and Erik Vloeberghs.

This compilation of Belgian bands is unique because of the sheer number (at that time) and variety of both pioneer bands and one-off projects. It has bands from Brussels, Antwerp, Gent and the hinterland from Belgium. Notable is the appearance of Pseudo Code, a Brussels experimental new wave band with ingenious electronics. Its members Guy Marc Hinant played as Waving Ondulata and later started the SubRosa record label while Alain Neffe continues to play as Bene Gesserit. Guy De Bièvre contines to work as a composer. Didi De Paris still publishes writings once in a while and keeps a blog here and here.
(we will gladly add or update links to recent projects)

excerpt from an interview in the 'Welfare' booklet.
Q: Why did you start this cassette?
A: Well, just like that. At a certain time, i guess in june 82, i got the idea. And when I have an idea it has to go through, no matter what. I was thinking: a compilation cassette?, everybody makes compilation cassettes nowadays, it is a bout time I do one too. And thus it happened.
Q: Do you have certain expectations regarding sales or anything?
A: No, no. I don't give a damn, as long as it's fun and as long as I like it, because that's of course the most important! I won't go through a lot of trouble to 'promote' this cassette, as they say. No, I do nothing, I lay on my bed at home and I wait and I'll see what happens. Do I care about it? If I sell 10 or 125, I couldn't care less. I think those cassettes are a comedy. But of course what you get is what you get.
Q: Can you perhaps tell us some anecdote regarding "Wij Zijn België"?
A: Perhaps yes. I find it rather funny that Kyriat Sjemonah, a band from Gent who once participated to Humo's Rock Rally, told me that static noise was the most important in their track. They've added some extra noise on top, because they weren't too satisfied with the result. And they use the Palestinian voice because it seems to be very trendy nowadays.
Q: More?
A: Because you want to, perhaps. The track by E.Coli ("My Life as a Drunk"), I had to make myself (Angst), because he (E.Coli) was too lazy. With EMI for instance you don't have to try this because you'll be out the door in seconds. Some of the basic track were by Coli however, when there are visitors at his house, he records it once in a while, but his mother doesn't like it too much. She tells him that he "shouldn't drag our household outside". But E.Coli hàd to be included, because supposedly a cassette won't sell in Belgium if it doesn't have an E.Coli track. He is very popular in Belgium, but then especially with the boys! But does that matter?
Q: Are there bands or people that didn't want to contribute?
A: Etat Brut, Jerry WX '2-Tracks', Mécanique Végétale, Paul Timmermans, Hans Hendrickx and Stragianopff 99 did agree but finally I didn't hear from them anymore, except some excuses than. Everything has its causes!
Q: What kind of music do listen to yourself?
A: I listen to anything within my reach. I like Whitehouse as much as Zjef Vanuytsel, Deep Purple as much as the Human League. The record I'm playing most now is "Metamatic" by John Foxx. And apart from that: Devo, Modern Eon, Joy Division, Mass, Dance Society, classical music, Gregorian, folk music from China, Japan, Morocco, Turkey, South America, Drs. P., jodeling, and so on. My last great discoveries were Mike Jones (an Englishman who makes cassettes, ao "Pretty Flowers" released by the nice Mud Bath Tapes), The Fall, Hans Dorrestijn, Leonard Cohen, Tangerine Dream, Die Doraus und die Marinas and Motörhead. In Motörhead I find the same power and energy as in De Brassers or Whitehouse.

Thanks to Frans De Waard for ripping this to mp3.

"White Power" was released in march 1983, it was the 11th release on the IPHAR label, compiled by Philip Best.

On 31 oct 1982 he wrote:
dear DDV,
hi! i'm afraid i haven't written to you before but i wonder if you'd like to contribute to a compilation cassette i am at present working on. i am 16 and have a group called consumer electronics; we were on the fur ilse koch album, as were you. i sell cassettes + my magazine Intolerance and have included a sample issue; i'm afraid its a quite old issue (there have been quite a few advances since then) and i now have 9 tapes available.
as i'm still at school i'm afraid i can offer you no payment if you decide to contribute but of course you will receive free copies. i already have contributions from RAMLEH (fist fuck) MANNINGHAM (whore hunting) CHARLES MANSON (tv interview) ASH (penisator) and i have approached many more well-known music workers; most of whom are interested in contributing.
release will be DEC/JAN. and if you want to contribute please send it on normal audio cassette tape.
i've only heard your track on fur ilse koch so i don't know if you also make more musical tapes BUT if you decide to contribute please make your piece as extreme as possible; brainfucking electronics are one of my major passions. i hate TG and their disco-shit.
please send me a list of what you sell as well since i've read great reviews of your work.
consumer electronics should be playing live with whitehouse again soon, please write back again soon,
yours,
philip best.

"White Power" created quite a stir, both due to it's title and it's cover bearing nothing but a swastika. It fueled the line of thought from some people and bands that despised noise music and accused noise bands of sponsoring right-wing political parties. There was a large debate when we published "The Most Violent Music of the New Right" by Come Org. in our first issue of Force Mental, and later in the US magazine Unsound. Generally spoken most of it was based on envy and attempts to have gigs cancelled and bands banned. In an interview from 1991/1992 Gary Mundy (RAMLEH) had this to say about it:
GH: All Ramleh's releases, with the exception of one tape, were released on Broken Flag. The exception being ONSLAUGHT on Philip Best's Iphar label. He described this as "a cassette of agonizingly dominant hate, sheer contempt.... The first in the new Iphar era of White Power." How did this association come about and what did he mean by "the new era of White Power"?
GM: Again, I know what you're getting at here but there was no right-wing viewpoint to any of the stuff -- we made an error in judgment in testing out the bounds of offensiveness. There was certainly no "movement" of any kind. Since those days, we have made sure that we do not fall into that trap again and go out of our way to avoid being promoted by magazines and record labels as any kind of political band -- we never were, and never would be. It is interesting to point out that the kind of organizations we were accused of supporting would certainly never tolerate the kind of people we really are. Having said all of this, I still stand by our music of that era as being genuinely unique and exciting.

Gary Mundy (RAMLEH) continues to play as a guitarist in the Heavy Metal band Skullflower and Gothic band Breathless. Philip Best played with Whitehouse for a considerate time, and recently has taken up Consumer Electronics on stage again. He also has a blog. Maurizio Bianchi spent some time in religious limbo but returns with new productions. Sutcliffe Jugend have also recently taken up music production again. John Murphy (KRANG) is one of the oldest noise veterans, he played in SPK, Whitehouse, Current 93, Death in June and as an excellent drummer for many pop bands in the studio. Most recently he plays in KnifeLadder.

Club Moral b/w V-Side - 2 Live Performance (C-30 cassette with 2 A3 xerox posters)

A - Kwaad, in Koelen Bloede (Club Moral)
B - Slachting (V,-)

"2 Live Performance" as its title says includes 2 recordings of live performances, one by Club Moral in Midgard, Middelburg on 12 dec 1982, and one by V,- in Club Moral on 21 nov 1982.
Both performances were highly visual, so what you'll hear bears a little description. Videocamera's were sparse at the time, and as far as we know, no pictures of either performance have surfaced.

"Kwaad, in Koelen Bloede" by Club Moral featured audio and welding gear scattered on the stage. AMVK controlled audio tapes and effects, and read out a text. In the meantime DDV ripped apart the right leg of his trousers and started shaping a piece of metal like a boot by hammering it onto a piece of wood. The P.A. people didn't really like the idea, and the low frequency electronics were tearing up the speakers. AMVK continued to read, and DDV welded the piece of metal shut around his leg. After the performance it had to be removed by use of a grinder.

"Slachting" by V,- was already described in the previous episode of this podcast, it was the apotheose of the slaughter-festival by V-Side in Club Moral. "K. stands on a platform holding the goose in his left hand, an axe in his right hand. Next to his head a porn movie is projected with a soundtrack of singing choirs. The sound stops, he chops the head of the goose and lets the blood spurt onto the projection. All the time D. sits naked under a black cloth with the image of a landscape projected above him."

Club Moral and V,- continued to play on joined occasions for a while. The most memorable event was at the Bauplatz in Venlo on 12 mar 1983 where we played a very chaotic set after V,- had set fire to a huge pile of human hair inside the premises. People had to literally crawl outside beneath the heavy gut-wrenching smelly thick cloud of smoke that filled the building.

V-Side - Objective Normandy (C-30 cassette with 40-page A5 booklet)

Although both sides of this cassette have distinctive separate tracks, the cassette nor the booklet list any track titles.

V,- aka V-Side aka Votnik are Dirk Paesmans and Koen Theys. This release is a documentation of a week of performances and installations by V,- on the beaches of Normandy in the summer of 1982, accompanied by Christine. In november 1982 we organised an exhibition and series of performances 'Slaughter Month' in Club Moral.

The following is a remindable report on the expedition. The atmosphere and tension brutally come forward. Besides that, it gives, next to the report of the risks, the failures and successes, a remarkable clear image on the outline of the expedition and the factors that had their influence on it.

South-station Brussels aug 6, 8.10h.
The Trans-Europe-Express will leave at 9.20 am. Paris-Montparnasse 12.10 am. Kolo Kolo by métro to Gare ST.-Lazaire. The turbo to Caen leaves in 20 mins. In the station in Caen we try to rent 3 bikes (Train + Vélo formulae) but they have only 1 mini left. At Bike-Rent-Company Robert we rent 2 ladies-bikes and 1 Sports-Motobécane, compelled by necessity. Caen 5.30 pm. We leave by bike in the direction of Riva-Bella, Objective Normandy Beaches. On the hunting-path next to the channel we cross the Pegasus-bridge, a bridge with a heroïc past. There's going to be a thunderstorm. It's getting dark. In Riva-Bella we find a hiding place right near a maïs-field.

Riva-Bella aug 7, 9.00h.
Whilst waiting for the commando museum to open, we send postcards. Inside. Forbidden to take pictures. We cycle near the coast in the direction of Arromanches. Right before Arromanches is Point Asnelles, which gives a panoramic view on Omaha Beach, with the reminders of an artificial harbor built on june 6, 1944. As tourists we stand on the edge of the falaise. The road to the centre is going steep downwards. Down in the centre we see a modern building surrounded by artillery-batteries. In the front memorial tablets: 'Les clefs de la libération reposent ici'. 'The keys of liberation of Europe'. A long row is going through the bronze gate on which is written in silver letters 'D-DAY june 6 1944'. On the beach still lay a few Phoenix-caissons, 1500 tons each. Washed ashore segments from the Mulberries. We cycle into the country, to Bayeux, where we spend the night in the 'Foyer des Jeunes Travailleurs de France'.

Bayeux aug 8, 8.50h.
Hot cocoa with butter-breads. 10.00 am. Bayeux Memorial with 2 tanks in front of it. Inside much music, much atmosphere. But we had to go very quick to the mass-grave in Colleville-sur-Mer. Cycling like beasts. The back-wheel of 1 ladies-bike is bend and trails against the brake. The sports-bike is missing 2 spokes. We reach the American Cemetery through a large avenue which continues midst the dunes. You can see them laying there. This is Omaha-Red-Beach, of which you can read in the Michelin-guide that here 'la bataille la plus coûteuse du jour J' happened. Charlie Dog, Easy Fox, Sword, Juno, Gold. Une Côte d'or pour eux. Here they lay, their bodies as first class lawn.
30 km westwards Exposition Omaha. Much music, much atmosphere. The night overtakes us on a busy Route Nationale without cycling-path where heavy trucks drive off and on. We spend the night in the football-stadium of Isigny.

Isigny aug 9, 8.30h.
We continue our search for the German soldiers-cemetery of 'La Cambre' which we were looking for yesterday-night already, without any result. Only at the last moment we buy Chicklettes in a Seca-shop we find out where it is. 'Versohnung über die Graben' is a German organisation which arranges the upkeep of German Military Cemeteries throughout the world. Young German volunteers are cleaning the graves. Arrival Utah-Beach 14.30h. The small 'Musée 4', an ex-Nazi blockhouse, you can see a slide-show there. We find a hiding-place in an open-air battery 5 x 5m.
Utah-Beach aug 10, 8.15h.
We are benumbed and the flood-tide is near. I start working on the Atlantik Wall and K. is doing an Emergency-test with his survival-packett. F. takes pictures.

Utah-Beach aug 11, 8.45h.
We continue our works during the whole day. At night we do a shadowplay.

Utah-Beach aug 12, 9.00h.
LANDING-PERFORMANCE.

Utah-Beach aug 13, 8.15h.
We leave for St.-Mère-Eglise, 20 km into the land. From the Airborne-museum we send postcards. Death From Above. We start at 3.00 pm for a 60 km ride against the clock to St.-Lo. La vie de la liberté. After 40 km it starts to rain and it's getting dark. At our arrival we're plain wet and cramped. L'auberge des jeunes warm, dry, cocoa and butter-breads.
St.-Lo aug 14, 8.15h.
Last etappe of 80km. Arrival in Caen 16.00h. With the Turbo to Paris. Arrival 21.10. Night-train to Brussels. Arrival 4.45 in the morning.
Zombies.
(this text first appeared in Force Mental nr3, november 1982)

On 7 nov 1982 V,- Division landed in the Club Moral spaces with 2 vans of equipment. The space is divided in several parts with heavy army canvas, each section portrays a different theme of the expedition with postcards, photos, objects . On 14 nov 1982 the exhibition opens, some 30 people witness the large projection of a movie on the outside wall of the factory building. V,- plays live bells from a balcony and from the roof. Later on inside, a documentary Super8-film and sound bits from the expedition are played.
The next day 12 people show up to watch AR/TE performs his infamous 'Power/Impotence' where he pulls the skin of a severed sheep's head over another sheep's head. The loud performance is stopped by the police. Next D. performs. He lights a fire in the room while drinking beer and rum. He throws some sausages and applesauce in a cooking pot and fries them. While the space fills with choking smoke he drinks more and eats the food, people run to our living room where K. awaits them with a pornographic resistance story.
On 19 nov 1982, 9 people show up to witness D. crawling under a large sheet of plastic in the courtyard. A howling dog is tied to a pole. Accompanied by a large floodlight D. gets undressed and crawls into the cage of a goose. The cold, stiffened and disgusted audience returns inside. K. shows a re-worked Euro-Chimique promotional film accompanied by loud synth music.
11 people are victim to a 45-min long dia-rite on 20 nov 1982. Violence, sex, religion, war, love, aggression and V,-. D spends the night on the concrete floor of Club Moral with 2 shortwave radios next to his head.
Finally 3 people show up on 21 nov 1982 to witness the apotheose of the slaughter-festival. K. stands on a platform holding the goose in his left hand, an axe in his right hand. Next to his head a porn movie is projected with a soundtrack of singing choirs. The sound stops, he chops the head of the goose and lets the blood spurt onto the projection. All the time D. sits naked under a black cloth with the image of a landscape projected above him.

Those were some of the days at the Club Moral....

"Muziek voor Zelfmoorden" (Music for Suicides) by Angst is the third release labeled as ZZ ZZZ, the first being "Last Exercise in Self-Destruction" and the second "Angst" (Club Moral Stocklist 012).
The four cassettes come in regular boxes with different kinds of wallpaper as cover and matching cutouts on the cassettes without further labeling. An accompanying leaflet comes as a manual with a statement and details about tracks and personnel.

All actions are completely useless. Therefore it is completely useless and superfluous to act. But is is also completely useless not to act. And it is also completely useless to think about such matters.
One only acts in order not to attract attention in a negative way, to attract attention in a positive way and to meet as little as possible pain and resistance on one's path of life. Stupidity keeps us alive.
But it is also stupidity that kills us. Everybody lives and dies for his own stupidities/cleverness. We should never make a distinction between things. There is only one thing: your conscience.

"Muziek voor Zelfmoorden", released in 1982, is definitely Angst's Opus Magnum and a landmark in the history of noise music. It totals almost four hours of sound collages based on (slowed) voice-recordings, extensive use of echo devices and a wide range of instruments ranging from analog synthesizers to violins, flutes and even cardboard or metal boxes, walkie-talkies and ashtrays. Made in an era of hometaping without computers for personal use, without affordable samplers, recording equipment or electronic devices of any kind this release still stands high above many of the so-called 'ambient' noise that is produced nowadays. Apart from complex but innovative recording and mastering techniques, also the distribution of this release was quite a burden: every tape had to be copied 1:1 and all the covers and leaflets are hand made. Therefore probably only a very limited number of copies are out there.
It is with great pleasure and much respect that we offer this release in our Stocklist Podcast. First of all we hope you enjoy the fine pieces of pioneer noise, secondly we think its value should be relooked upon in view of recent music history.
For technical reasons and to spare you long downloads this edition of the podcast is offered in 4 parts, details about tracks and personnel mentioned on each of the posts, as well as four short extracts from "9.999.999 Miljoen Erotische Variaties" by the "Liga voor Ditjes en Datjes".

excerpt from letter of Erik Vl to DDV.
Ridiculous chap,
Isn't it quite time to reflect on thy own self instead of hassling gods like us with your most useless opinion? In the haughty sphere of the Spirit you want to commit the God murder. Monkeylike ridiculously monkeylike parroting is something you can do, but serve God, oh no, Mister is probably too good for such things? Do you know, King of the vermin, that we can catalogue you based on your intelligence and also quite based on your looks, with the donkeys??? You are a kitsch fashion model for uninteresting mail-art magazines, did you know? You are a tiny shunted out mud buffalo only out for sensation & perversions, did you know? You are an uncomfortable human being. One can not get to you with problems regarding pigeon-flying. And by the way, as long as you don't know about Frans Karton, you have no right to open your foul mouth.. The fact that you, Danny the fox, exist is one of the reasons that people quit here and move to Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, etc. and that the most weird and colourful races take their place in our home country. Monkeylike parroting and recording singles, you should be ashamed. And learn to be more polite when you're dealing with people of descent. Not everybody was like you raised in the gutter, remember.

excerpt from "interview of the author with himself"
I find everything ridiculous, except God and chemistry. Lately I look at everything in a positive way, that means, even the most negative event always still has positive aspects. People are conditioned to look at everything from a negative side. I find that rather pathetic. It is typical that as well people who seriously consider suicide as well as people who strongly condemn suicide (isn't that rather premature, gentlemen?) are usually quite stupid people, look at these mourning heads, filled with their egoist prejudices. They don't even bother to think. But then I know that there is an explanation for everything. But even when you don't know the explanation, knowing that it is there is sufficient. It almost makes any philosophy superfluous.
You might as well live?
Indeed everything consists of facts, so why bother? Making the best of it is probably the best. Sometimes suicide is the best solution, personally I prefer to live, however. Instead of committing suicide I would rather change my lifestyle radically, doing very silly things for instance, and or change of area where to live. Switzerland, Canada, Finland and Greenland rather appeal me a lot. It is typical that a lot of people hate the region where they grew up intensely. If I recall the travels I made with my parents to Switzerland, France, Austria and so on, then I'm sick of sorrow. I think it's so miserable here when you compare it to those beautiful countries. I want to break out of here. Flanders is hell for people who love nature.

Letter from Erik Vl to Reader's Digest
Dear Sirs,
Last week you sent us 2 money orders to use by us for the book "Most beautiful villages of Belgium" and for your magazine "Reader's Digest". We are sorry to tell you that we don't want to receive your rag anymore. You can eat it yourself. And regarding "Most beautiful villages of Belgium", we have returned this book a couple of weeks ago, clearly within the time-limit you set forward. We didn't like the book at all, it contained way too little popstars and actors from the Dallas-series. Hopefully you won' bother us again, life as it is is without all that pro-american empty-headed girl-adorning pig shit that you clearly are, already dirty enough.
With "most respect".

Letter from Erik Vl and Luc VDB to Humo's Uitlaat:
As unemployed we earn 12.000 francs each every month. We already had several offers already to be employed, but we smartly refused. How do we use our 12.000 fr? 200 francs a month we spend on food, 100 francs on transport costs for the travel to our sick mother. Every 3 months we also buy her a bouquet of flowers, easily costing 120 francs, so 40 francs a month. The remaining 11.660 francs we entirely spend at our favourite bar on Bacardi-cola's (at 70 francs a piece). The most stupid among you will protest that we enjoy those Bacardi-cola's on the back of the taxpaying little man who bends his trunk from morning till evening to gain a franc. We although think that this reaction is unsportsmanlike and unfounded because:
1° By drinking Bacardi-cola's we support the Belgian liquor industry and also the development countries who after all deliver the raw material for our booze.
2° It is proven that long and exhaustive consumption of alcoholic beverages damage health, so we also give a helping hand to funeral undertakers and limit the overpopulation.
Thank you for your understanding,

"A Sound Atlas of Venereology" by DDV is based on the medical book "A colour atlas of Venereology" by Anthony Wisdom in the Wolfe Medical Atlases series, published in 1973. DDV bought it in the late 70s, it is now out of print and a collector's item.
All tracks are by DDV, performed on Wasp and Korg MS50 synth, and recorded in Club Moral in summer 1982 on a plain stereo cassettedeck with no remixing or mastering. On some tracks sound samples from the movie "Possession" (1981) by Andrzej Zulawski (recorded in a movie theatre) are used.
The original edition came as a cassette with no cover, in a plastic bag with a booklet. The booklet contained the lyrics to all the tracks, and a selection of pictures. The cover of the booklet had a colour picture, cut from another medical book. All the lyrics are from "A colour atlas of Venereology" and another fairly old German medical book. Unfortunately we don't have any of the booklets left, and even the original mastercopies seem to have gone astray. The German medical book was used in an artwork by DDV and might have gone astray as well.

Some of the lyrics include:

  • Introduction (to the patients) - Many people attending a venereological clinic for the first time are understandably, extremely apprehensive and it is essential that the rooms in which patients are interviewed and examined have quiet, privacy and good illumination. Full clinical examination will often be necessary as systematic disease is often the cause of genital symptoms and lesions. Complete genital examination is always necessary and particular attention should be directed to remote sites where lesions that are helpful in the diagnosis of genital disorders may often be found. These remote sites include the eyes and conjunctivae, the oral cavity, the skin and nails and the lymphatic system. Examination must always include taking specimens for serological examination for evidence of syphilis; in many other conditions further laboratory examinations will be necessary.
  • Voices from the patients is an example of synthesized male and female voices on a Korg MS50 synthesizer.
  • Pinta is the least serious of the treponematoses. The disease has a limited distribution and is almost confined to poor native and Negro communities. Transmission is by contagion and nearly always occurs before adult life.
  • Calypso was not made with a tapeloop but with a 33rpm vinyl record that had a piece of tape stuck on it.
  • Chancroid is an acute sexually transmitted infection of the genitalia characterised by painful ulceration and frequent bubo formation. It is found throughout the world but is much more frequently seen in warm climates and in populations with low standards of hygiene.
  • Bone Lesions - Tertiary syphilis of the bones generally begins as periostitis, with later cortical involvement. The osteo-periostitis of long bones is predominantly an osteoblastic process with deposition of extra bone under the periosteum, resulting in the usual findings of thickening and irregularity of affected areas. About 50 percent of patients with tertiary syphilis of bone complain of pain in affected areas; this pain may be very severe and is classically described as 'boring' in character.
  • Bizarre sexual practises can result in bizarre physical lesions.
  • "He's very tired, he made love to me all night."

Apart from "Pinta" none of the tracks were ever performed live and none have ever appeared on compilations. Although there was wide acclaim among fellow musicians and noise enthousiasts, no reviews or mentioning of this cassette has been made in any music or other source since its release in 1982.

DDV & - Δ t - Bangkok (C-60 cassette)

A-01 - DDV
A-02 - – Δ t
B-01 - Press conference at Club Moral

"Bangkok" was first released as a C-30 cassette with live recordings of DDV and - Δ t at Stollwerck, Köln, Germany on 22 jun 1982. Later on it was re-released as a C-60 cassette with both live recordings on the 'Europe' side and a press conference by - Δ t at Club Moral on 6 feb 1982 on the 'Asia' side.

- Δ t was formed around 1978 by Karel Dudesek, Mike Hentz and Chrislo Haas. In 1980 I met Karel Dudesek at the Festival International d'Art Performance in Lyon, France. He later came to visit me in Gent and Antwerpen, and we kept in touch through mail.
In the meantime we had founded Club Moral and - Δ t started their "Bangkok Project". The idea was to transport a huge stone from the Prescelly mountains near Stonehenge to the soon to open Museum of Contemporary Art in Bangkok, Thailand, and then afterward to the Himalaya as part of the first "Philosophische Datenbank". Before he joined - Δ t, painter and conceptual artist Bernhard Müller had been in Bangkok. There is a rumor that he had a meeting with the director of what was to be the Museum of Contemporary Art where he took him into the courtyard where he had parked his van, and started driving in circles for several hours while they discussed what should happen in the museum. The director liked the 'performance' a lot and promptly invited Müller to organize an international art festival.

Between 1981 and 1986 - Δ t transported the stone from Wales to the Himalaya, first on the flatbed of their Bedford truck, later on a special trailer. They travelled all over Europe, visiting art events, but they also managed to have the stone sprinkled with Holy Water by the Pope or having Rolling Stone (!) Mike Jagger posing next to it.
In february 1982 they were staying at Club Moral to do some repair work on their truck, and for a 'Bangkok' event at Montevideo, an Antwerp art space. We were scheduled to play, and Claude was doing a performance (with pig entrails and molotov cocktails and the whole). As a stage for our performance we built a 6m high metal scaffolding covered with parachutes. While - Δ t drove their truck inside the space, we had to move our scaffolding. By doing so a metal door which served as a platform fell down and knocked DDV and M.Bryo on the head, they were driven off to the hospital with head injuries while AMVK, supported by Raf Bauwens, performed as Club Moral. The show must go on.
In late 1982 - Δ t took off to India, and from 1 april till 30 may 1983 the Bangkok Project was held in the Bhirasri Institute in Bangkok, Thailand. Club Moral were supposed to play, but we never managed to get the funding.

However, the stone never made it to Bangkok and was left in custody at the Austrian Embassy in New Delhi in India in early 1983. The idea was still to get it up in the Himalaya, but for the time being it was thrown in the Ganges near Rischikesh so it would get more 'aura'. After a successful contribution to the New Delhi Triënnale the stone was fished from the Ganges, and a polyester mould was made. First the stone remained in a temple, but then it was moved again to the garden of the Austrian Embassy, where it remains until today.

The Bangkok Project was primarily financed by the issue of 'shares'.
"Through the acquisition of this share /1/ you become a co-owner of the rock /2/ which the group minus DELTA t will transport from England to the Himalayas, where it will be deposited as an international monument 1982. Its sight will be published after the accomplishment of that projekt. The shares rate correspond to 1 kilometer of the projekt Bangkok /3/ 'or' as the precise proportion of the rock weight respectively. There are 19967 shares in all, and they are numbered. The rock is an integrated part of the art market and the majority of share holders decides apon further activities. 1 each sale or subsequent sale has to be registered. 2 european culture-rate. 3 co-operative artistic field research concerning international cultural exchange."

In 1987 Dudesek and Hentz founded PONTON Mobile Art Project, basically a private radio station, which later went into VAN GOGH TV, the first world wide interactive television project. Karel Dudesek is course leader at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication, London. In 1996 he realised Worlds Within for the Olympic Games in Atlanta. Mike Hentz founded Frigo, Code Public and Radio Bellevue in Lyon, France. He is professor for Multi-Media Art at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste in Hamburg. Chrislo Haas was also an original member of DAF, he died in november 2004 at the age of 48. Bernd Müller became a Sufist and is now an islamitic artist, he lives with his wife and many kids in Pakistan. Bangkok Project shares n°s 6648 till 6665 are still available from Club Moral.

Various Artists - Blanco (C-90 cassette)

A-01 - V-Side
A-02 - M.Bryo
A-03 - Angst
B-01 - Club Moral
B-02 - Etat Brut
B-03 - V-Side
B-04 - Bonus

"Blanco" was recorded live on 18 june 1982 at Galerie Blanco in Antwerp, Belgium. The idea was to raise some money because previous events organised at Club Moral had been cancelled by town authorities and we had run into troubles with tax authorities, security regulations et al.
Apart from the recorded performances there were also installations by Claude and Waving Ondulata, films by J.C Wouters and Fugitive Cinema, and videos from The Kitchen, New York and De Nieuwe Workshop, Brussels.
The evening started out around 19.30hrs with a performance by V-Side. Dirk Paesmans and Frank & Koen Theys were laying in the gutter of the street outside the gallery with shortwave radios tied to their head. DDV interviewed people about their opinion towards the performance, which was stopped by the police after about 15mins. On stage M.Bryo kicked off, a one-man new wave synth project of Mark Burggraeve. M.Bryo was part of an emerging new beat generation which also produced bands like DMT, The Klinik, Vomito Negro, etc. Next to torture the sound system was Angst. With nothing but cassette players and effects Erik Vloeberghs instantly brewed an exquisite noise set just using found footage and home recordings of his parents, relatives and neighbours chatting and whining. Then Club Moral took the stage. With Super8 movies and slides for visual effects some of the classics including 'Eating Limbs', 'Der Wind Schlagt um' and a rare 'Hail to Thee, Black Prince' were performed con brio. Etat Brut would fulfill their usual role of aural rapists with the most powerful and obscene electronics. To finish off in chaos V-Side came onto stage again.

Environment-werk, film, video, muziek in Galerij Blanco.

ANTWERPEN.

Zoals vrijdag in Galerij Blanco bijvoorbeeld.
Galerij Blanco dus. Aanvang 20u.30, toegansprijs 80 en 100 fr.
(Marc Ruyters in De Morgen, 18 juni 1982)

M.Bryo continues to play as KOYT! and some songs are available from his website. Claude has discovered Photoshop. Waving Ondulata continued to work and perform and later on founded SubRosa.

DDV - Performan (A4 xerox-book)

"Performan DDV" is a catalogue of all (56) performances by DDV from 1979 to 1982. There is a short descriptive text in dutch and english and when available a picture from every performance. Since it isn't possible to podcast printed matter (or pdfs), we illustrate this episode with a rare movie that surfaced only last year after being stored away in a box for over 20 years.
On 5 sep 1980 DDV placed 6 self-made ladders on the marble staircase of the International Cultural Centre (ICC) in Antwerp. Then he fell down from the stairs 6 times. By coincidence part of the performance was recorded on Super8-film by Annie Gentils. Nothing ever happened with that film reel until Johan Pas curated the exhibition "Dear ICC - Aspects of contemporary art in Belgium 1970-1985" at the M_hka in Antwerp. The exhibition sported a mass of documentary items about installations, performances, concerts and movie-shoots at the ICC, and we remembered about the movie. 2 days before the exhibition opened the reel was dug out of a crate and transferred to DVD.
The version in this podcast is a remixed version DDV made for Factor 44's UKKR/ICC remod event, but never made it through the Great Chinese Firewall.

In the 1980s "Performan DDV" was edited as a xerox-book in various numbers, in all no more than 75 are out there. In 1997 we published a reworked version, covering all performances until 1996 (ending with the one Jan Hoet never saw), as a smaller A5 xerox-book. From that one even less are out there.
The full version of "Performan DDV - 1979-1997" is available on DDV's website.
To fill the gap in some people's libraries who have been begging us for copies for ages, we've made a brand new reprint of the original "Performan DDV" in a one-time edition of 50 copies. It's available in our WebShop Tal Para Qual, or contact us if you don't have PayPal.

We also consider a remix-project with the Super8-movie for which we invite video and sound artists either to remix the video or make a soundtrack. Shoot your ideas and we'll see what happens.

Magog Universal - Erradication Time (C-46 cassette)

A-01 - Untitled
B-01 - Untitled

"Erradication Time" is the only release of Magog Universal we know about. Also I couldn't find any correspondence leading to the origin or the maker of this cassette. It was released in early 1982 in Britain. The music on "Erradication Time" is a fine example of early sound-collages using found footage, synthesized and shortwave noise, and effects. Both sides contain one long piece. The back of the cassette has written "For Timothy Evans" on it, and the image used on the cover is taken from a newspaper article about Timothy Evans.

Timothy John Evans was hanged at the age of 25 in Pentonville Prison, London on 9 march 1950 for the murder of his infant daughter Geraldine. In november 1949 he was living with his wife Beryl Thorley at 10 Rillington Place in London, in the flat above John Reginald Christie. On 2 december 1949 the bodies of Beryl and Geraldine were found hidden in the wash house. Evans had gone to the police and confessed to killing his wife by giving her some 'abortion pills' . Later he confessed to strangling her in an argument about money when he found out she was pregnant, and strangling the baby two days later. A couple of days later he withdrew his confession and named Christie as the murderer. Supposedly Christie, who had been a medical attendant during the war, agreed to perform an abortion on Beryl, and she died in this attempt. In panic he also strangled the baby. The investigating officers concluded that Evans had committed both crimes, however he was officially only charged with the murder of his daughter Geraldine. Christie was they key witness heard by the court, and finally the jury found Evans guilty and he was convicted to death by hanging.
In march 1953 the new tenant of 10 Rillington Place discovered a door to a kitchen pantry plastered over with paper, when he removed the paper and opened the door, he found the bodies of three strangled women. After a search of the house and garden, three more bodies were found, including Christie's wife Ethel. On 31 march 1953 Christie was arrested. His modus operandi was to 'treat' women for various diseases ranging from headaches to bronchitis, as well as perform abortion operations. He would render them unconscious with gas, strangle and rape them. During interrogation he confessed to murders as early as 1943, including the murder of Beryl Evans. He was tried at the Old Bailey, and hanged at the age of 55, from the same gallows and by the same executioner as Timothy Evans, in Pentonville Prison, London on 15 july 1953.
While Christie never confessed to killing Geraldine Evans, there was a wide public outcry for the innocence of Timothy Evans, since Christie had been the key witness at the trial and obviously lied about the death of Beryl. In 1965 Ludovic Kennedy wrote his pièce-de-résistance "10 Rillington Place" in which he dug out the whole case to conclude with an apparent miscarriage of justice. In 1966 Timothy John Evans was awarded a posthumous pardon, later on the case led to abolition of capital punishment in Britain. "10 Rillington Place" was made into a landmark Serial Killer 'docudrama' by Richard Fleischer in 1971 with John Hurt playing Timothy Evans, Richard Attenborough playing John Christie and Judy Geeson playing Beryl Evans. The film was shot at the actual location of the murders in Rillington Place and is a must-see for true crime buffs with a truly stomach churning performance by Richard Attenborough.
Rillington Place was renamed to Ruston Close shortly after Christie's execution and is now demolished.

If anyone has more information about "Magog Universal", or if the author of the cassette reads about this, please contact us and we'll update the information.

"Kousen Breien voor Melaatsen" (Knitting Socks for Lepers) is as far as we can reconstruct the third release of Kwajongens in Bloei (Urchins in Bloom). The first one was "In Wording", the second one "De Mars der Kwaadaardige Gezwellen". It was a co-release with "Finger in the Dyke" Records from Holland.
The tape has 5 tracks on each side, the cover doesn't list any titles, it was released in march 1982.

Kwajongens in Bloei was an idea of Erik Van Woensel, a multi-instrumentalist. Other members were Wim Ceuppens, Erik Vloeberghs aka "Angst" and Luc Van Den Bruel aka "E.Coli".
They played live on some rare occasions, the first time was on a free-podium in Hallaar. Nihilistic texts were read onto synth drones and rhythms, within minutes the complete audience apart from some drunken sods had left and after 8 minutes the PA was shut down by the angry owner of the venue. KIB played on for another fifteen minutes on their own amplifiers. This concert was released on their second cassette.

To our knowledge only 3 cassettes were released, and in december 1982 an epitaph was published in Vloeberghs' "9.999.999 Miljoen Erotische Variaties":
Yes "it's true, KIB is no more".
You remember probably that what was supposed to be the farewell concert (in Wiekevorst) of KIB eventually didn't happen because Big Danny still happened to be in E.Coli's arse. Yes, we admit that we have willingly indulged in all trends and picked up success wherever we could grab it. We also admit that we wanted too much success in a too short span of time, and apart from that: things didn't go that well among the individual band members. Luc (E.Coli) wanted to go more into disco, he wanted people would jump around dancing onto our music, you know what I mean. Vloeberghs wanted to make covers of American Top bands like KISS, Boston, ELO, Asia, Kansas, Styx etc. Erik Van Woensel on the contrary was not allowed any longer from his mother to get involved with music after troubles with the youth brigade. We admit: at the top of our career, drugs, alcohol and boys were warp and woof in KIB. Especially the singer frumped from one to the other. "As long as it can strip down its pants it's allright for them" told Myriam about us. The result of course a whole list of venereal diseases. You will understand that KIB could not go on longer like this, the lovers went from one hand to the next and the money was spent in a record on heroin and doctors. IF we even played (because not every organiser had enough money to organise a concert with us), we had to perform while swimming because everywhere where we came the male semen was up to our chin, that's how made the fans were about us then.
We have heard in the meantime that E.Coli now has a relationship with the guitar player from "The Machines" and that the singer is with Will Ferdy. But how long this will last is another question. We have also heard that Jan Van Woensel has sworn off macrobiotics and is now wasting his fortune in gambling casino's. And there is a rumour that E.Coli is doing the streets in Leuven to earn his money.
Anyway, the Kwajongens are dead. This means that bands such as Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, Virgin Prunes, 23 Skidoo, Whitehouse, Come, Einstürzende Neubauten, Club Moral, Nocturnal Emissions and Killing Joke, whom as we know have stolen their whole repertoire from KIB, will have to find their inspiration elsewhere. The future will learn what the future will be. All there is is awaiting.

Kwajongens in Bloei played live in Club Moral on 8 may 1982.
Erik Vloeberghs continues to work as a civil servant for the Belgian National Institute of Statistics. E.Coli published 2 more cassettes "Wo sind die Blümenkinder geblieben?" and "Die Traurigkeit, die toten kann", and is now a successful businessman. We don't know about the whereabouts of the other Kwajongens in Bloei.

Angst - Angst (C-60 cassette)

A-01 - Untitled
B-01 - Untitled

"Angst" is ZZ ZZZ 02. This is the second release by Erik Vloeberghs, preceded by "Last Exercise in Self-Destruction".
The tape has 2 long compositions based on recorded conversations, effects, synthesizer drones and occasional drums and other instruments. Nor the tape itself, nor the cover gives any information about the tracks or the band.
There exists no printed catalogue of the many releases of Erik Vloeberghs and we couldn't find any other information about this release. It was published in early 1982, while Vloeberghs was also involved in "Kwajongens in Bloei", to be featured in a next episode of the ClubMoralStocklist Podcast.

"Angst" is a landmark in the history of Belgian noise music. It was the first release that stood far away from the many new wave synth music bands as well as from the upcoming power electronics or mechanical rhythm stuff. The involved sound pieces were based on a recording of a Christmas party at 'De Witte Villa', and heavily layered with slowdown experiments and ambient sounds. The idea of music was heavily related to writing in the cut-up tradition of William Burroughs and Brion Gysin, but at the same time not influenced by audio works from these artists.
Erik Vloeberghs was also a great writer and poet, he published several volumes of his own writings on looseleaf pages and/or xeroxed editions including "Eerste Rapport van de Liga voor de Vernietiging van het Heelal" (1000 copies, 1981), "9.999.999 Miljoen Erotische Variaties" (door "De Liga voor Ditjes en Datjes, 1982), "De Ziekte van Burroughs" (1983), "Kom in het Huis van God!" (1983) en "Notities" (1984) to name a few.

Erik Vloeberghs' writings have also been extensively published in Force Mental as of nr 1. We also have a huge volume of correspondence in our archive, ranging from postcards to 8-page letters. Some of his later poetry is available on this website.
He continues to work as a civil servant, responsible for the website and digital newsletter of the Belgian National Institute of Statistics.

Jerry WX - 2Tracks (C-60 cassette

We don't have a copy left in our archives of CM011 - 2Tracks / Jerry WX, instead we offer an excerpt of Jerry's performance in Club Moral on 22 sept 1982.
(If anybody has a copy of this cassette readily available, please contact us so we can make arrangements to complete the digitalisation of our stocklist)
On 22 sept 1982 we organised a concert of "Velvet & Der Ground", a new band by Walter E. Baumann from Frankfurt-Am-Main, Germany. They were touring over Europe, and Club Moral was to be the only Belgian venue. At that time the organisation would take a lot of time & money to pay for transport & fee for the band, so we decided to move to a larger space nearby, which we could use for free. We stuck up a lot of posters, had publicity and interviews on local and national radio. Nevertheless Baumann and his Velvet never showed up....
Scheduled as support act was Jerry WX from Brussels, who just published his first cassette on the Etat Brut label. EB011 would be the only full release by an other artist on the EB label.

Jerry WX aka Jerry Wanker started his career as a punk rocker in the band "Chainsaw", with Micky Mike aka "Snowy Red". He actually only had a very short encounter with power electronics before turning to "Digital Dance" and finally "The Revenge", a garage rock band.
Jerry also worked as a producer and studio musician for a number of Belgian Bands until 2000, when he died of an Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.

The photo of Jerry was taken by kraut

"Géometrie d'un Assassinat" is EB 9. Preceding release is EB008, previously available on this podcast as CM002 "DDV/Etat Brut".

To many this is regarded as Etat Brut's most 'accessible' release. Although at first sight the music may seem rather enjoyable, the themes or underlying content does not differ from the violence and disturbance of previous releases.
The idea of brain damage, interference and chemistry seeded in the earlier releases is here fully featured by the 'Surgeons of Electronic Hardcore' as they were called in 'Cassette Gazzette n°7': "This C-60 dissects with a timely realism, the victims that we are of the machine or of the ambient bestiality. The sound material, raw to say the least, works on the wretched corpse with precise notions, a sharp point. Neither sentimentality or hawkishness. Armed with the experience of their autopsy, they lavish care on the severely wounded persons of their euthanasia on the incurables in a final cry of agony (which is ecstasy, of course). A sound universe at the point of intersection of the industrial experimentations / machinations and the German cosmic rock. From this truth-document, one will remember above all "Poles du Cerveau", "Dealey Plaza" where the texts will convince the ultimate sceptics, "Karol Simon", cut-up incision gives free reign to convulsive spasms approaching the dance, and "Allright" howled by DDV in a psychotic trance".

Further on "Dealey Plaza" reveals a joint interest of Etat Brut and DDV in the life and times (and it's end) of Lee Harvey Oswald. "Karol Simon" is an early proof of fascination for Sex Murders while "7 h 30" describes the dangerous and haunting atmosphere of the infamous 'viaduct' between Etat Brut's lodgings and the centre of Brussels after many sleepless nights. "Allright" kinda became a classic on sparse live performances of Etat Brut. The sound sample (from the movie "The Deerhunter") is played and re-played from a walkman straight into a microphone - no electronic sampling there but instead instant real live-button action by a psychotic DDV.
Those were the days....

The tape was released around june/july 1981, on 19 june 1981 Etat Brut played live with Mécanique Végétale at the Club Moral in Antwerp.

On 1 june 1981 they played again at the Beursschouwburg:
1) One of the machines decides not to work.
2) Man of the P.A. decides we play too loud and just turns the volume down. We had to scream and to hold all dolby's out and all volume at max value.
A scramble
We were making a song called "Belfast" and all sounds were saturated and completely mixed. A big noise. I tried to get some sounds out of it. Not possible. My friend had to scream over the top and people could just see him scream but didn't hear very much. Strange impression probably.
3) I get excited. Smashed my bass on the stage and leave. My friend stay and keep on screaming on the noise. I come back with a chair, smash it on the floor and break it in two pieces. I take another chair and throw it through the stage to the other side. Then cut the power.
4) People seemed to like it (?) and applauded for an encore. We didn't do that, of course.

"Mutations et Protheses" is EB 004. Preceding releases EB 001 was a C-60 cassette (featured later on this Stocklist) "Cassette n°1", EB 002 was a 4min Super8 film "Paysage Mental", EB 003 a xerox package "Cellule Cancéreuse".
The tape was released in march 1981, on 3 april 1981 DDV joined Etat Brut for a performance at the "Underground on Stage" festival in Brussels. "The 'music' we will play in the show at the Beursschouwburg is already on tape. Actually, the machines make the noise themselves. There's no gesture of musician in it."
The performance lasted about 10 minutes. I was standing on the left side of the stage before a screen on which film footage of a violent nature was shown. A girl was standing on the right side reading a text. The sound of the machines was extremely loud. I threw my right leg in the air as high as I could several times. To my left foot a rope was fastened at which somebody pulled at a non-defined moment. I suffered a concussion of the brain.

After all who needs a brain? take a bullet to my eyes, blow them out and see if I die....

"sadistic psychopaths were given the task of devising sex fantasies involving Reagan. Results confirm the probability of Presidential figures being perceived primarily in genital terms; the face of Johnson is clearly genital in significant appearance - the nasal prepuce, scrotal jaw. Faces were seen as either circumcised (Kennedy, Khrushchev) or uncircumcised (Johnson). In assembly-kit tests Reagan's face was uniformly perceived as a penile erection. Patients were encouraged to devise the optimum sex-death of Ronald Reagan."

"multiple-track cine films were constructed of 'Reagan' in intercourse during
a) campaign speeches
b) rear-end auto-collisions with one and three year-old models changes
c) with rear exhaust assemblies
d) with Vietnamese child-atrocity victims
Reagan thus appears as a series of posture concepts, which reformulate the roles of aggression and anality."

In a letter of 18 april 1981 'Hans' wrote for EB: "There are not many reactions to the gig, so far. In fact, it's always the same, to whatever we release. I suppose it's not entirely paranoia, I mean, not always... No reactions, bad or good, right or wrong, black or white. There's always such a distortion between internal feelings and the related expression that it is quite interesting to get feedback to see what is this distortion, how it comes and where it goes. I mean the whole living situation in which we're stuck is forming the distortion and this is maybe far more interesting than the original feeling itself. By the way, the more significant consequence and feedback of the gig was your head concussion."

There exists a bootleg of this cassette release on 2 red vinyl 7"s by a french label 'Vinyl Feces" MLEBMP 01-7.

"Attack on Stuttgart" was the first music performance by Club Moral. It happened on 19 september 1981 on the occasion of a performance event "Das Konzil", organised by Boris Nieslony in the Künstlerhaus of Stuttgart, Germany.
"Das Konzil" was mainly a discussion event for performance artists (ao. Harrie de Kroon, Mike Hentz, Jacques van Poppel, Franklin Alders,....) and organizers, with quite a lot of drinking, endless talks and little action. The Club Moral 'attack' took place in a small room with no windows and all 4 walls covered with mattresses. We played very loud with heavy bass volumes. At the end of the concert people were complaining of nausea and vomiting.
There were two separate involvements, the first was more or less in the afternoon, Etat Brut also played on the same event. The second stint happened in the evening, with Etat Brut joining us to perform "Death Threats" and "Lonely Weekends".
We travelled by train and stayed for three subsequent days in Stuttgart. Etat Brut travelled by car, arrived in time for the first concert in the afternoon, and drove back to Brussels after the evening stint.

Boris Nieslony was for some time head of the "Kleinen Ausstellungsraum" in Hamburg, Germany. He continues to work as a performance artist and organiser of performance events. He formed the performance group "Black Market" and now he's in charge of the "Art Service Association"
Relations, talks, events and discussions among performance artists and organisers are still being organised through the "IAPAO" (International Association of Performance Art Organizers) network.

"Attack on Autonomia" was actually Club Moral's third public performance. It happened on 24 october 1981 in a squat-factory near the Brussels University. The event was organised by Votnik.
Several other bands also played, apart from Votnik I don't remember any of the other performances. There's little doubt that any of those other performances was documented. Etat Brut were scheduled to play but decided not to since they opposed the 'anarchist' character of the event.
The night before we played at the "Cool Gate" in Brussels with Etat Brut, Mécanique Végétale and Pseudocode. Both our and Etat Brut's performance were recorded and maybe subject to a next series of archive material release.

"Votnik" continued to organise events, perform and exhibit. Later they changed their name to "V-Side", and later on simply "V". It's members continue individually, Dirk Paesmans is notorious for the pioneer internet art website www.jodi.org while Koen Theys is a well-known Belgian video artist.

Thanks for your IMMEDIATE cooperation, best, WB.

william,

just as the podcast says, i'm putting our club moral stocklist into the public domain for archival purposes. there is a widespread interest in the early days of club moral and electronic and noise music in general, whereas much -if not most- of the original material is no longer available because it is long out of print, incredibly difficult to find, or -in our opinion- absurdly overpriced. making this material available in a widespread yet low-quality format, we hope to entice visitors to our webpages to support artists and labels by buying the newest releases. the reactions have been unanimously positive so far.

personally i also think the idea of copyright material is slightly overrated, i doubt that you actually own copyright or have permission to use the material released on the record, or -by the way- re-release the etat brut track on 'anthology 2'.

however, if you insist i will take the file offline (it will go away after a while anyway to make room for forthcoming products), and inform the visitors to our webpage by quoting our correspondence upon this matter.

all the best,

ddv

Hi Danny,

You can put any of your own material online as you wish (including the track you made included), but take off now an album that we released ourselves independently. It's got little to do with your opinion on record prices or what you doubt or not, it's amateur internet piracy to in your words 'entice' i.e. market your webpages.

Thanks again for your cooperation, hope you're well, best, W.

william,

i've removed the thorn in your eye from our podcast page. we will continue to post next items from our stocklist in the near future for reasons & purposes explained, too bad you have a different opinion.

apart from that we continue from the black ashes of club moral dead and buried, beware....

Various Artists - Für Ilse Koch (12" 33rpm vinyl)

A1 - Imperial Japan: under the victory banner.
A2 - Musique Concret: exit.
A3 - Come: come sunday 2.
A4 - Aleister Crowley: nature of the beast
A5 - Nurse With Wound: fashioned to a device behind a tree
A6 - Lebensraum: consumer electronics
B1 - Leibstandarte SS MB: plutoniumetrio.
B2 - Charles Manson: cease to exist.
B3 - Etat Brut: necro.
B4 - Wiking DDV: nordic perversions.
B5 - Whitehouse (live): mindphaser - anal american.
B6 - Heinrich Himmler: europe lives.

A release by Come Organisation (WDC 881021) from 1982. The regular edition came in black vinyl, a limited edition of 100 came in red vinyl.
"Für Ilse Koch" was the second compilation after "The Second Coming". It contains a huge variety of sound and participants; the power of technology with Leibstandarte SS MB, the laziness of Charles Manson, the brutal violence of Whitehouse live aktion, the pomp of Imperial Japan, the atmosphere of NWW, the electronics of Etat Brut and Viking DDV, the depths of Come, the avant-garde Musique Concret, the satanic majesty of Aleister Crowley, the dynamism of Heirr Himmler and finally the the savage attack by Lebensraum all cohered together for a record that must rate as the most unique of all time.
The listeners of these records will always enjoy the most intense reactions of all.
(source: "Birth - Death, The Whitehouse Compendium" by Kakos/Strength Through Joy Productions 1986)

In the early years, Club Moral was with Aquilfer from Italy the only Europe mainland distributor of Come Organisation products (records, cassettes and booklets). We also published their notorious article "The Struggle For a New Musical Culture" in Force Mental 1, which sparked off worldwide bans and imputations on their and our fascist nature.
On 23 feb 1982 we were invited by William Bennett:
"Dearest DDV, We're planning a new compilation featuring violent music! Would you like to contribute? If you would please record 3 tracks of not more than 4 minutes each from which one will be selected for inclusion. When you are ready I will send you the contract terms. I must know your decision by feb 26th and the music must be delivered by march 5th. Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you soon, best regards! Yours, William Bennett."
Instead of the contribution we sent (of which the only copy may exist in the Come Org archives), Bennett chose to use "Oorlog" from our earlier release "Mit Neuen Waffen". For some reason we're also listed as "Wiking DDV", and the track was renamed to "Nordic Perversions". Also Etat Brut's track was given a new name.

Come Organisation is now overtaken by Susan Lawly, exclusive label for Whitehouse and Extreme Music series: "we produce exquisite and extraordinary works of music and art whose comprehension will violently challenge to the fragile core of a naked soul".
Nurse With Wound continues to record and a wide variety of recordings are available. Lebensraum aka Consumer Electronics recorded some cassettes, later Philip Best joined Whitehouse and recently he performed solo again. MB aka Maurizio Bianchi stopped recording in 1984 when he became devoutly religious, he withdrew from electronic music until 1998 when he was given his own label "EEs'T Records" by Emanuele Carcano from Alga Marghen Records. Charles Manson remains in prison at California's Corcoran State Prison and is up for parole in 2007. Etat Brut will feature on forthcoming issues of this Stocklist. Whitehouse continue to record and play live. Their latest album "Asceticists 2006" is now available.
Some tracks of "Für Ilse Koch" appear on the "Anthology 2 - Come Organisation archives 1981-82" CD.
The original track where Nurse With Wound borrowed the famous sample "Nein papa, ich will nicht papa" can be found here.

DDV - Zeno X (cassette C-30)

A1 - Resonantiepunctie.
A2 - Gastric Ulcer.
A3 - Peter Carlier: Sadist.
B1 - Duizend levens van Rathé.
B2 - Tarzan Mark.
B3 - Jaded.

This was the first 'multimedia' package by Club Moral. It featured a C-30 audio cassette by DDV, a recto-verso printed poster and an original artwork by AMVK. The edition was published on the occasion of AMVK's exhibition "Industriële Typen" in Zeno X Gallery from 25 feb till 25 mar 1982. Most of the tracks on the cassette were performed live by DDV on the opening night.
On show in the exhibition were 5 series of paintings on plexi "Men - Women - Pronouncements - Purpose - Order" in an organised chaos on walls and floor.
The poster is the third issue of AMVK's self-edited magazine "Public Annemy". It consists of a variety of images, collages and texts.

"Resonantiepunctie" is a recording of DDV's voice on reel-to-reel tape, the tape is pulled through the tape-recorder by hand, no additional effects have been used. "Peter Carlier: Sadist" is based on the writings of Peter Carlier, a Belgian convicted sadist murderer, you can hear a rare performance by AMVK on flute. On "Tarzan Mark", DDV persists a young boy to shout until he's completely exhausted. "Jaded" is a cover of James White and the Contortions.

In later years DDV has been corresponding with Peter Carlier in prison for a while. Carlier's present whereabouts are unknown. Xavier Rathé is on the cover of Force Mental 3, he died when he fell off a building in Amsterdam in the early 90's. Mark was our neighbour boy at Club Moral, he has a daughter and is divorced from his wife. AMVK continues to exhibit at Zeno X Gallery.

This is a review on AMVK's exhibition:

Daarom is België zo'n vruchtbaar land tegenwoordig".

A joint release by Club Moral and Nova Akrilik Cie, re-released in 1983 as "Mit Neuen Waffen +" with a different B-side.
The first actual 'Club Moral' recordings with DDV on synths, found footage and voice and AMVK on synths and voice..
All tracks were recorded on a plain cassettedeck, the live tracks recorded on a Sony Walkman.

"Oorlog" was recorded live on 24 oct 1981 in "Autonomia", a squat project by "Votnik" (aka V-Side) near the VUB university in Brussels. The pounding synth on "Exces Kontrol" is a beaten FBT synth that we (still) borrow from Raf Bauwens. "I Like it in Here" was also the soundtrack for an AMVK-installation.
"Nova Akrilik Cie" were from Paris, where they initiated "Usine Pali-kao", a factory building with a programme of exhibitions, performances and concerts. We were booked once for 2 nights on 28 & 29 nov 1981, with Etat Brut joining on the first night. The first night about 15 people showed up in the ice-cold space to watch us play while wearing heavy coats and gloves. We were paid a share of the door-money, so we gave it all to Etat Brut. The second night only 3 people showed up....
No track titles have ever been available for the B-side, if you happen to know more about it, please contact us.
The first edition of "Mit Neuen Waffen" ran 100 copies, after that we added a recording of our 17 jul 1982 concert in Budapest. The concert was in an exhibition "4 Landscapes" by Janos Veto in the artist village Szentendre next to Budapest. The gallery was in an underground basement, completely carved into the rock of the mountainous area. Only sound equipment available was a hi-fi system. We plugged the Wasp into the phono input, threw some cassettes inbetween and DDV used a wooden stick as a microphone (you can hear it banging on "Exces Kontrol"). "Da Beeleke" sports the voice and laughs of Guy Cassiers. "Trabant" is Janos Veto's Band. We actually arrived in Budapest due to an uncertainty of playing in Vienna, it was Mike Hentz from "- Δ.t" who got us in touch with Janos Veto and Gyuri Kozma. A report with photos from the Hungarian stint is published in Force Mental 2, p. 23-25.

This is the translated text of Gyuri Kozma's poem, written on 24 jul 1982:
"You know I don't know
but there's a funny feeling
just knocking on the horizon
and I wonder what if
the next moment wouldn't
come but there would be
an other moment coming, apologizing
in the name of the next moment
which couldn't come and
then you have to accept
the situation : you're sitting
here, in the afternoon gloom
with no friends, no love no
values no money no prospects
and you were about to think
that maybe you should change
your behavior : be nicer to
the neighbour a dog or just
think nicer things and then
in the midst of all this,
waiting for your next Martini
looking the legs of those girls
who will eventually leave you
now well, here you are, facing
the next-after moment, that
came to tell you the very
next moment had some other
things to do, something was
more important than you again
and I'm sure you couldn't do
better - you have to sit
here, waiting for a moment
it's humiliating : it's just
a little moment, and, which
is more, not even the right
one so it should be easy to
say something, hello for instance,
but here you are, looking for
a word and you won't find it
- the next moment
got inside itself"

DDV's tracks were made with an EDP Wasp synth, voice and various found footage. On track 8 and 9 Etat Brut play extra synths. Etat Brut's tracks are made with Korg MS 20 and MS 50 synths, Roland drum-machine, effects and found footage.
All tracks were recorded on a 4-track TEAC cassetterecorder.

The sound footage on "Eating Limbs" (an all-time classic!) is a recording from a 1978 DDV-performance where he frantically hits two hammers onto each other.
The text of "Death Threats" is a message DDV received on a postcard in the mail, the sound footage on this track is a recording from a 1978 DDV-performance where he was dragging a stone across the floor of his basement for 1 hour.

An additional review from Cassette Gazzette n°5:
A: Danny Devos: 4 sept.

The Simpletones (7" 33rpm vinyl)

B - Don't be cruel, to a heart that's true.

The Simpletones are Johan Desmet on guitar and Rudy Cabie on electric organ. The music is consists of a variety of combinations of the same 3 notes over & over.
In the early years they only played during performances by DDV. The first occasion was AMVK's exhibition "Basic" at Art Something in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on 12 sept 1980. More information on the performances of DDV and The Simpletones here.
In later years The Simpletones have evolved in a big band with up to 20 participating musicians. They released a 12" 45rpm vinyl "Wir Sind Wieder Da!" in 1983, and a full CD "Einfach" in 1993. On both releases DDV performs some vocals and/or 'narrative voice'.
Johan Desmet continues to make music, including several operas and soundtracks for theatre plays. Rudy Cabie died a couple of years ago. DDV continues Diggin' for Gordon

The title of track A of 'The Simpletones' was taken from the German newspaper BILD-Zeitung, it was a story about a boy who brutally murdered his girlfriend after a last walk on the beach. Track B was recorded live in the basement of Albert Frèrelaan 93 in Gent, with DDV vomiting during the full 8 minutes of the track.
